Posted by: Beeboppin71 1 month, 2 weeks agoThe Transportation Security Administration rejected as a "myth" CNN's report that less than 1 percent of the nation's daily flights carry armed federal air marshals. Now the agency is conducting an investigation into who talked to CNN and who encouraged other agents to do the same.

Repeatedly, the sources told CNN that as few as 280 of an estimated 28,000 daily flights had armed federal air marshals aboard. That amounts to less than 1 percent.
Spokesman Christopher White said a TSA investigator is looking into the "possible unauthorized release of sensitive and classified information to the news media by covered parties."
"That number is absolutely wrong," said Kip Hawley, the head of the agency.
As I read it the number 280 of armed federal air marshals is sensitive and classified information but absolutely wrong.

"Congress doesn't want to hear it," the marshal said. "They stick their heads in the sand. We tell them about the corruption. We give them examples and proof and I think they are scared of what they see. And they don't want to deal with it."
Another example of our do nothing Congress. Bush administration should have choosen competent people to run the Air Marshal Program but Congress should have investigated air controller's claims.

The way things are going under this administration it will take decades and thousands of investigations to get at all the wrongdoing and ineptitude of almost all of our government agencies. And yes I would be terrified too if I suddenly got a call from a government agent questioning something in my personal e-mail. Also --- Sorry I've got to go. A black suburban just pulled in the driveway and a couple of guys are getting out.

LISSEN UP... look at it this way... we need more incidents to militate for the cause of having sufficient enemies without and within making expeditious a draconian system... in order to make oil and general consumer tyranny more of an entrenched thing... and it just might not matter elephpants or asses...

Knowing that less than 1% of airline flights have armed air marshalls is useful information to potential terrorists. What they don't know is how it is determined which of those flights would have these armed air marshalls. The process of determining where to place those marshalls is the key ingredient. Maybe (and I say maybe because I really don't have the foggiest notion) that the 1% figure is adequate assuming that the process of determining where to place the marshalls is based on reasonably reliable intelligence. It would seem to me to be totally wasteful to place armed marshalls on every flight including those senior citizen excursions to Vegas or those high school trips to Washington DC.

Don't forget libsRfunny, that that 1% completely baseless fabrication is sensitive and classified information.

Okay. Except that I think you should quit whining about the supposed terrorists running our government and be thankful that we live in the greatest country south of Canada and north of Mexico.

When the TSA was authorized, the initial emphasis was to SPEND the money allocated as rapidly as possible, in order to create the impression that something was actually being done to protect the public. Hiring took place very rapidly, without adequate screening, without any clear idea of what the agency's ultimate responsibilities would be, and consequently without any real idea what sort of background might be most useful.
Now we have literally thousands of unqualified and poorly motivated people on the government payroll, none of whom have ever been required to actually produce any positive results. The "success" of the TSA is entirely negative--"There haven't been more hijackings."
Thee are the geniuses who want to put stun bracelets on every American who travels by air. That will cost a pretty penny, and again create the illusion of an active security program.
These clowns are on our payroll, and now we can't get rid of them.

That doesn't sound like the workings of a conservative government, now does it?
"The "success" of the TSA is entirely negative--"There haven't been more hijackings.""
Agreed. There is no empirical evidence that we have prevented anything. Actually, it is quite a masterful stroke by OBL, when considering it strictly strategically. One decisive event and a bunch of feints and messages that make our government believe something is going to happen. We run around like chickens with our heads cut off, spending money, changing security protocols and rights, and they sit in a cave and have a good laugh.

Far as I can tell, the TSA -is- a bunch of weenies with control issues. It -does- seem as though they hired without sufficient regard to the TYPE of people they were hiring. Sometimes, it seems to me that the ranks of the TSA are similar to the ranks of the Hitler Youth. Allatime going around making out like they are Super Cops or Interpol Agents or some such. (OPEN YOUR BRIEFCASE! GET IN THIS LINE! TAKE OFF YOUR SHOES! GET IN THE SHOWER!) When really they are just baggage checking passenger harassers. And frankly, the whole "Homeland Security" thing makes me more than a little queasy.
Apologies to those in the TSA who actually do their job properly and don't get all big-headed about it. I know they exist.

IS IT NOT AMAZING THAT ONE MAN SITTING IN A CAVE IN A REMOTE MOUNTAINS OF WEST PAKISTAN CAN DO THESE THINGS TO PEOPLE OF THE MOST (SUPPOSEDLY) MOST POWER COUNTRY.
. TAKE OFF YOUR SHOES AT AIRPORT
. CANNOT TAKE TOOTH PASTE, WATER, DEODORIZER GEL, SHAMPOO, COLOGNE ON FLIGHT
. MOTHERS CANNOT TAKE BABY MILK ON FLIGHT
. REMOVE YOUR LAPTOP FROM ITS CASE
. TAKE OFF YOUR BELT, WATCH, RING.
. HAVE YOUR BACKPACK CHECKED AT SUBWAY STATIONS
. HAVE YOUR SUITCASES OPENED AND THINGS STOLEN BY TSA

Not only that nikkibabe, but he caused Bush to kill more Americans than he did. Can it get any more absurd than that?

What we need is a TSA comic relief. This could be a real fun event. We (the travelers) line up the TSA searchers and throw gel, water, and pies at them until we feel better. Then we flip them off as we walk through the terminal without taking our shoes off.
