Posted by: berkeley 1 month, 3 weeks agoAccording to Article 18 of the Taliban's shadow constitution in the tribal areas they control, a "holy warrior who detains a foreign soldier, journalist or aid worker has the right to ask for money or exchange them for Taliban prisoners."

This doesn't surprise me--this is a country where local religious/political leaders punish men who commit a social faux pas by sentencing their innocent young sisters and daughters to gang rape.
Even in the southern U.S., foreign gangs are kidnapping U.S. citizens and taking them into Mexico for ransom.
