I disagree with you slate. This lady would have meant money to the cooperate heads that are running these hospitals now. Trust me they would have looked at her then! I volunteer with an organization trying to help Americans without medical coverage and I am telling you, they will give you an aspirin and send you home if you have no way to cover the cost. Even if you are insured but that insurance is not top notch they will treat you like crap. The doctors for the most part doesn't want to but their hands are tied. I also think Universal Health will eliminate a lot of the court cost to the medical professionals.
I think people are too vested in their stocks to see the good of this thing. It cost us more when an uninsured patient is treated than it will with health coverage. The resistance here is more about greed than commonsense.

this doesnt happen in other countries because you die before ever getting to a hospital or riding around in a ambulance waiting to be seen..this a product of illegal immigration totally overwhelming and paralyzing our ER systems..hospitals close down to avoid just this sort of thing..to say universal care will affect any of this is ridiculous..it will make it worse..it will just get hidden better ---

"this doesnt happen in other countries because you die before ever getting to a hospital"
Sources? Facts? Physics description of the of the alternate universe?
For the record, the us seems to be pretty far behind other countries in health care.
Here's WHO's rankings in a national geographic page:

I would hope this kind of thing wakes up hospital administrations nationwide to the overtaxing schedules of healthcare workers. After 48 hours anyone can be dismissive. We should have incentives to build the national nursing corps, and shorter shifts for all.

"In May 2007, the New York Civil Liberties Union and the Mental Hygiene Legal Service sued Kings County in federal court, alleging that conditions at the facility are filthy. Patients are often forced to sleep in plastic chairs or on floors covered in urine, feces and blood while waiting for beds, the groups allege, and often go without basic hygiene such as showers, clean linens and clean clothes.
The lawsuit claims that patients who complain face physical abuse and are injected with drugs to keep them docile.
The hospital, the suit alleges, lacks "the minimal requirements of basic cleanliness, space, privacy, and personal hygiene that are constitutionally guaranteed even to convicted felons.""
Why is that hospital open? It needs to be shut, cleaned, restaffed from top to bottom and then reopened. I have never seen a hspital in that kind of condition. What's wrong with New York that they would allow this?

Nixie -Truth is it has been cleaned up since then, you can eat off the floors. These things happen because of the community they serve. The area the hospital is in is predominantly Minority. However because of gentrification the area in the last ten years has become a balance mix of minorities and whites and out of no where the city found the money to fix her up. Truth is some of the best doctors in the world work there. If a cop is shot in NY that's where they take him. I know a man that got shot in the heart and they saved him. People need to realize that our greed is starting to supersede our commonsense and humanity. This is the reason all empires fall. We need to return to that balance. We curse the French but it seems they have the best model in the world. When the Koreans were about to build a health care system that's the one they took. If the people doesn't matter whats the point in having anything!

I saw the video. It didn't seem to be so much the hospital's fault, but, the fact that no one in the room seemed to think much of it that she was laying on her face. I read that it was a psychiatric hospital. Being so the case, those in the room might have been a bit off in the head themselves, or, they might have thought SHE was a bit off for doing what she was doing. If so, it's like those horribly tragic situations where the parents of a child they love more than anything, think one, or the other, brought their toddler in from a locked up car on a hot summer day. In otherwords, it was possibly NO one's fault.
