Oil. Can't live with it, can't live without it. As if global warming, war, and recession weren't problems enough, gasoline prices are edging toward $5 a gallon.

I think Oil price hike is inevitable, so it is really a must to discover/invent/find out some alternatives for it. "What do you think using water instead of oil?"

Sunny, I think using water in place of oil would be wonderful but until that is possible at a reasonable cost we will have to continue to use oil.

Btw, ever wonder why you don't get as good of gas mileage before ethanol was added. Ethanol is alcohol and alcohol evaporate very quickly so if you don't use ethanol quickly it evaporates. Besides it's other problems, ethanol is difficult and dangerous to transport. Far more dangerous than gasoline.

Drill now! The U.S. has plenty of oil, shale oil and coal. By the time it runs out there will be practical, competitive alternative sources.

Ethanol produces CO2 just as burning oil does. Use of corn based ethanol has driven up the price of food. Most electric cars run on electricity derived from oil or coal. The only non-CO2 producing practical power today is hydroelectric and nuclear. In the future it will be solar, wind, geothermal and a few others. Even fusion power will eventually become practical (in 40 years or so).
