Congressional Republicans overwhelmingly abandoned Bush in voting to pass the bill last week. They overlooking its cost amid public concern about the weak economy and high gas and grocery prices. Supporters praised the spending on food stamps and emergency food aid.
"Twenty-five percent of my state is now in need of food assistance," said Rep. Thaddeus G. McCotter, R-Michigan. "I work for them, not for the president."

this farm bill, like almost all of its predecessors, is a huge subsidy for corporate farming. it has zero to do with helping the little guy. mccotter might be lying.
the fact that congress can get indignant about welfare for the rich, and cannot stop the war, or a dozen other abuses, is criminal negligence.
congress fails again.
