Ted Kennedy has malignant brain tumor

News – Doctors for the Massachusetts Democrat say tests conducted after Sen. Edward Kennedy suffered a seizure this weekend show a tumor in his left parietal lobe. His treatment will be decided after more tests but the usual course includes combinations of radiation and chemotherapy.

Given his age and the nature of the treatment, I would think this is the end of his political career. Good luck to him.

CNN has their own (longer) report here

http://www.cnn.com/2008/POLITICS/05/20/kennedy....

"White House spokeswoman Dana Perino said President Bush was "deeply saddened" by the news and would keep the senator in his prayers."

Shouldn't this be under " Humor " . I mean I would never wish harm to anyone , but if this had to happen , what a person to have it happen to . Very Ironic . The whole Kennedy clan seems to have been cast under some sort of spell . Maybe back to Papa Joe's bootlegging days . It was all bloodmoney anyhow .

Hmm. Unwillin to forget Mary Jo ... although you werent there ... but EASY to forget Oliver Norths crimes, G Gordon LIddys crimes, Newt Gingrichs hypocrisy, and of course, our own Goerge W. Bush causin the death of untold thousands through bold faced lies and sheer incompetence.

I get it ... anytiem a Libural mucks things up ... its eternal damnation ... but anytiem one of our Conservative shills mucks things up its ... its not their fault.

Hey! We got an ironclad way to protect our morally vacant ways!

I think you are confusing that which may be adjudicated with your opinion.

Liddy did time. He picked a lock.

Martha Stewart did time. She lied in a federal investigation in which she otherwise did nothing wrong.

Roger Clinton did time for cocaine. Half-brother Slick, though mentioned in the same evidence that put Roger in the slammer, skated thanks to incredibly well-timed advice to watch his steps.

Not a single person had to die for the above to do time.

Mary Jo died. Kennedy modeled that line from the Eagles song: "...breaks [his] heart to think of others only."

On the other hand, perhaps you can identify one single American citizen who has benefited from the fact that Teddy breathes. And I don't mean Big Dig contractors, either.

I figured I'd get these kind of responses . I never cared for the Kennedy's , really . They are all a bunch of crooks . JFK jr. was the second choice pick by his father since his brother died in the war . And of course this is a forum of sorts and I am allowed to voice my opinion and I'd be surprised if everyone agreed with me . It's what makes us all differnt , our opinions . So , thank you for responding and have a great day . I don't believe in karma anyhow .

"Given his age and the nature of the treatment, I would think this is the end of his political career. Good luck to him. "

There have been plenty of sick, older Republicans who held onto their office with a death grip. Why twist this difficult time for the Kennedy family into a political rant.

avatar

"political rant"

You are the only one twisting anything into a political rant.

The man is 76 and about to have radiation aimed at his brain and go through the debilitating effects of chemotherapy. You figure it out if you have the wherewithal to do so.

avatar
Reply

You obviously know absolutely ZERO about what it means to have radiation therapy for a brain tumor.

Most patients remain fully functional, if a little tired, during such a procedure. Seizures are easily controlled with a battery of anti-seizure drugs like Tegretol and Dilantin.

This is a very serious, quite possibly non-surviveable, diagnosis and Senator Kennedy may CHOOSE to end his political career because of it but it will almost certainly NOT force him from office if he does not wish to leave.

Apparently, ningyo is an EXPERT on brain tumors and disagrees with my first hand experiences. Please, ningyo, enlighten me on what you consider to be knowledge.

avatar
Reply

But ind, you have to consider that the stress of the job combined with treatments may drain him. He does need to take it easy, even if he does stay in office.

avatar
Reply

I agree completely foksipayne, the treatment will be draining, and he does need to take it easy, especially if he stays in office, I'm only saying that radiation therapy doesn't leave a person incapacitated.

avatar

Arlen Specter is on his second round of chemotherapy after a recurrence his Hodgkin's Disease . He is slightly older than Senator Kennedy and he hasn't missed a beat during his treatments.

avatar

The Chemo will make him very Ill, I had a friend with lung cancer and I didn't see him for just a few weeks and he didn't even look like the same hulk of a man I knew. Sadly he didn't last long, sometimes I wonder if the Chemo actually helped or sped things up. I do wish Ted well, I'd never send bad Karma out to anyone, simply because of politics.

avatar
Reply

I had a very close friend that was strong and able to do anything he wished and was diagnosed with lung cancer. Three days after chemo he was in the hospital on his death bed with a breathing tube in his throat. The hospital in question was suppose to be one of the best around but I would have to say he would have lived longer without the treatment. This has nothing to do with Kennedy condition but it does bring into question about the treatment he may receive and the benefits from it.

avatar
Reply

Sorry for your loss,, chemo is a tough thing indeed

THAT, my dear banana muncher;is class...

avatar

The radiation may not leave him incapacitated, but sadly, a malignant glioma does not have a good prognosis. Further or subsequent growth in the parietal lobe can affect Kennedy's ability to integrate information, which I'd say is very important to do what politicans do.

avatar
Reply

I think you will find the Senator has something on the order of Glioblastoma Multiforme. It's one of the more common forms of brain cancer. The treatments at best buys the patients a little time but rarely do you see anyone making it over 1 year from diagnosis. There are a few, but a very few. It's an insidious disease that is very resilient to most treatments. Given the Senator's age and other health issue, his prognosis isn't promising.

avatar

I heard it is a glioblastoma and unfortunately it is grim prognosis.

I'm not an expert on Tumors, however one of my older brothers has had nearly 40 of them cut out of his body throughout his life. Including one that took most of his calf muscle. He has been living with an inoperable brain tumor for 18 years.

At this point we do not know if Teddy's tumor can even be removed. So we should not be so quick to say what he will face with treatment.

tanglang,

It is cancer. That will be fatal, most likely. His age will go against him too.

Everyone who saw my posts on the other thread about him, knows that I am just glad to get him out of office, because of his voting for abortions, time and time again.

I said one prayer for his "salvation" in all of this. Other than that, if he would go back to having his voice/vote go towards more killing of the unborn, I hope the Lord keeps him from going back to his "job" as a U.S. Senator.

I hope that before Christians pray for this man's healing (without including the need for his salvation and a true turn around), that they stop and think about what he will do once back in his office of Senator.

I'll leave it at that,

Debra...

Psalm 11:5 The LORD trieth the righteous: but the wicked and him that loveth violence his soul hateth.

The Lord hates the soul of the wicked. Read it for yourself.

Did you feel sorry for Saddam when he was put to death? Most people did not feel sorry for Saddam because Saddam did such wickedness in his country.

We all have a line that we draw. I draw a line with the killing of the unborn. Are we to only seek change in other nations' bad leaderships and do nothing about our own? --kind of hypocritical.. don't ya think?

Scripture speaks of God hating the hands that shed innocent blood. God also speaks against those who do nothing to help the helpless.

I speak out against the wicked and I pray that God will remove the wicked from government. Should God choose to remove any or all of them, is up to God. And how God chooses to do so, is up to God.

It is true, though, that the best thing would be for Kennedy to get saved and denounce what he has done.

Perhaps you should read your own scripture quote, My Dear. "The LORD trieth...." Not Debra, the LORD. I certainly feel sorry for anyone put to death at the hands of men, for evil has been perpetrated on them. Things were bad enough in Iraq with him in charge; with us there they are immeasurably worse. Jesus commanded but two things, and said that they encompassed all the law, and both of those things were to love. God's prerogatives are His own, but yours are limited to obedience to His commandments to love, or to disobeying Him.

I agree with you wholeheartedly that abortion is evil. What I disagree with you about is that our government should make it illegal. It is unwarranted interference with a woman's right to be in command of her own body, and it would do but little to lower the incidence of abortion.

avatar
Reply

Read the second half of that verse.

Also, we Christians are called to love each other, not the wicked. If God hates the soul of the wicked, we followers of God, surely are not called to love such.

And I disagree with you about murder (abortion) being legal --it should not be. It is not the woman's body being murdered, but rather the baby's. It is interesting that you would not want Saddam killed, but you are okay with abortion being legal.

My point about Saddam, is that few people felt sorry for him. But all these people pity Kennedy, when Kennedy is partially responsible for hundreds of thousands of brutal murders of the unborn in our nation --via his votes.

43"You have heard that it was said, 'Love your neighbor and hate your enemy.' 44But I tell you: Love your enemies and pray for those who persecute you, 45that you may be sons of your Father in heaven. He causes his sun to rise on the evil and the good, and sends rain on the righteous and the unrighteous. 46If you love those who love you, what reward will you get? Are not even the tax collectors doing that? 47And if you greet only your brothers, what are you doing more than others? Do not even pagans do that? 48Be perfect, therefore, as your heavenly Father is perfect." Matthew 5:43-48, NIV

Women's bodies are often killed or gravely and permanently injured by pregnancy. At the very least they are permanently changed by it. If anyone did to a woman from the outside what children often do from the inside, you would judge her justified in killing the one who did it.

OK, YOU WANT TO TALK ABOUT THE DANGER TO WOMEN? Women die from legal abortions! A good friend of mine died from one. I saw her for the last time the day before she left, but I had no idea she was leaving town or getting an abortion. Had I known, I would have begged her not to.

Kathryn was a 20-year-old, Texas resident who went to Los Angeles to get a 16-week abortion. She was admitted to Bel Air Hospital for the saline abortion on September 1, 1972. By the next morning, she had a fever of 102° and she delivered a dead fetus about noon that day. Kathryn had a "fretful" night, went into shock early the next morning and was pronounced dead at 9:40 a.m. on September 3, 1972. The cause of death was from shock that started from the loss of blood to an ovary, which resulted in gangrene. (Los Angeles County Coroner's Report, Case # 72-9587; "Reports on abortion deaths called lax," Los Angeles Times, Part II, November 10, 1972

To be continued......

continued...............

I played the music at her funeral after she was shipped back home a week after her death due to the mandatory CA autopsy. I was 22 at the time. I went early enough to tuck yellow daisies (her favorite flower) into her cold, dead hands. Her devastated mother told me that before her death, Kathy had cried out to an attending priest begging for forgiveness for killing her baby. Her mother never forgave herself for buying that plane ticket for her daughter.

One out of every 6,000 women who have an abortion after 21 weeks gestation die.

One out of every 166,000 abortions ends in death.

Just under one out of every 100 abortions has a serious complication.

These figures may be low due to under-reporting of deaths due to abortions.

Have you ever even educated yourself on abortion procedures?

Sure thing, tkychncs, you clearly do not know how to discern Scripture. If that Scripture means what you think it means, then we could not fight those who are hurting even our own child. Think about it. Would you just stand by and love and pray for someone pulling your child's limbs off his body?

Abortion is a brutal murder.

If we really WERE a Christian nation we would have no such worries, because we would be known everywhere for our tolerance and generosity and love. But it seems we can justify all manner of atrocious behavior with snippets from the Bible, including murder of those already standing on two feet. Do you think the early Christian martyrdoms were not witnessed by family members and fellow believers?
