I'll buy the book simply because Oprah was such a B*T*H to him when he had the guts to come back on her show and answer questions about the book. She was just concerned about her own reputation and I believe she set him up and attacked him. She could have voiced her displeasure to him for representing the book as non-fiction, but still commended him on his talent as a writer and acknowledged his book was a "good read". Isn't that the reason you recommend a book to begin with, whether fact or fiction? Because it is a good and interesting read? Chastise him for lying, if she must, but don't attack the guy and try to ruin him, just to save her a$$.

I am buying this book because oprah was so mean to him on her show she acted like we didn't have freedom of speech in this country and he could not write what he wanted. He had to embellish the truth so it would seem interesting to the readers and the people who read it was being helped from addictions and all she cared about is not that people was being helped by the story but what she felt like the book was a lie. I believe that because of her reaction might have causes others to not get the help and encouragement to succeed as he did with others and for that I hope I win the lottery, No, I pray I win I will not only buy 1 book but hundreds.

I will buy the book, as I have his previous 2. So what that he embellished some of it. Oprah was very rude to him and , frankly, I lost all respect for her afterwards. He has helped millions understand or at least glimpse the addicts side of what is going on. And helped tons of parents open their eyes to what their kid may be experiencing. Kudos to James Fry and see ya Oprah.

Damn right I will buy this book. Just because Oprah has a TV program does not make her the expert on all topics. In fact, she is less informed on most issues than most people. Her opinion and $4.00 will by a gallon of gasoline. His book, real or imagined, has an amazing view of what it takes to find the road to recovery. Those of us who have travelled that road know his portrayal is closer to reality than Oprah has ever been.

oprah was out of line this week with the hipnosis and the fact she has come to that there is life after death ...reincarnation.....I guess now she has taken the place of God and is telling all what to believe...She thinks she is God...haha..

r u kidding me.....i enjoy james freys books and i will definitly buy his new book, but u can't blame oprah for being "harsh" on him. yes, it is her reputation that she is concerned about but at the same time he wrote a very good book about the challenges he endured about being an addict and oprah thought he wrote a good book. as a writer or just even being a human being there is such a thing called... INTEGRITY and as a writer integrity and reputation is everything. i wouldn't be surprised if he did that to sell books. hey lets face it lies, drama, and decite sells. so i can see why oprah was so "harsh" on him and he deserved it!

Absolutely would buy his book - it was one of the first times that I saw Oprah being more concerned about herself and her ego than she was by the amount of help, support and benefit Frey's book had for other recovering people. After many years in recovery, if I wrote a memoir, my memories would be quite different than those around me at the time who were actually sober. So many people were being helped and feeling connected instead of alone, and she actually tried to take away from that to "humbly" talk about how honorable she was. To me, the most honorable thing would have been to say, I hope this accounting of addiction helps others to have some hope. Instead she worried about herself instead of the thousands of others who were helped by identifying with his feelings, the facts didn't matter.
