News – In a sharp reversal of accusations against Iran, the US military made an unprecedented confession: the weapons recently found in Iraq were not made in Iran at all. In contrast, the Pentagon admitted it lost a third of the weapons distributed to Iraqi security forces in 2004/2005. The 190,000 assault rifles and pistols roam free in Iraqi streets tod
So, no weapons made in Iran, no training militants and NO nuclear bombs. What will be the new excuse?
New Surgeon General report: falafel kills children!
"Every child who has ever eaten falafel has either died already or expected to die in the future. Bush admin claims the Iranians are behind the spread of falafel."
Actually, I made that up, but it turns out it may not be that far from the truth.
Lurch,
I hope Mr. Krugman forgives me for actually pasting this little article into the thread, but I think it deserves to be read even by those who won't click on your link:
" The FBI sifted through customer data collected by San Francisco-area grocery stores in 2005 and 2006, hoping that sales records of Middle Eastern food would lead to Iranian terrorists.
The idea was that a spike in, say, falafel sales, combined with other data, would lead to Iranian secret agents in the south San Francisco-San Jose area."
I find this hilarious and frightening at the same time.
Even if these liars do manage to pull together a cache of weapons made in Iran, what does that prove? You can find weapons in Iraq made in:
China
Israel
Russia
The Czech Republic
America...
Does that make us all state sponsors of terror? The war on terrorism is a SHAM. It is a deliberate hoax pushed forward by the Bush administration to let them carry out endless war and occupation in oil rich states.
It is just what John McCain slipped in a senior moment and said it is... Blood for oil.
Another problem arises, also, when you consider that even if weapons from Iran do show up in Iraq there may not be conclusive evidence that traces them back to the upper levels of government. Just as weapons disappear from the backs of trucks in the US (though thankfully not as often as in other countries), weapons may make their way from the lower eschelons of the Iran military into Iraq without the knowledge or approval of the upper.
Then again, considering how many weapons the US has 'lost' and now reside in the hands of insurgents, perhaps we should invade our own country ;).
Some hidden implications... i.e. weapons conveniently lost in Iraq in order to fuel sectarian strife, encourage latent tribal hostilities, civil unrest etc., The underlying intent? - to provoke decimation and genocide without actually pulling the trigger... the strategic equivalent of "playing in the cracks" between black and white keys typical of how CIA and other secret forces inspired tactics materialize in different places as the opportunity presents. In order to deal realistically with the distinct possibility that these types of shadow pogroms form a part of the smoke and mirrors coming from Iraq, one has to stoop to otherwise unimaginable depths. Judging from the motley list of characters involved both directly and on the periphery of the Iraq debacle, it is no wonder that the average person refrains from entertaining the same type of morbid cynicism that characterizes the leaders and the lieder motif of this war - big oil and illicit expansion of property rights.
The US has lost about 30% of all the weapons it sent to the Iraqis. (Thank you Petreaus!)
That`s on top of all the weapons giveaways and weapons sales we have done in that civil war zone.
Then there is the billions in bribes, handouts, entitlements, and other crony corruption schemes.
You would think the Republicans in charge of the Iraq fiasco had never heard of the word `accountability`, which is why we need a Dem in the WH from Jan 2009.
Dionys,
I really think these guys are more like the keystone cops than some mastermind group.
As long as they have the msm in their pocket (or vice versa), they will get passes on all their f`ups. The msm helped sell the Bush War and helped cover up for failure to stop 9/11 and Iraq PR campaign, and the ensuing fiasco. With that kind of non-accountability combined with their feelings of self-entitlement, it should not be a surprise to anyway the size of their gigantic f`ups.
I used to think Iraq was a monumental miscalculation. Now that I know that their entire plan is to invade and occupy Iraq, Iran, Syria, Somalia and at least topple Hamas in Lebanon, I think they deliberately let Iraq slide into chaos and civil war in order to give them a permanent foothold there, and to find "provocations" from neighboring states and expand the war.
The REAL monumental F/U will be when we try to occupy all that hostile Muslim territory with our existing army, or institute the aggressive draft such a plan would really require for any hope of success.
One thing to know about NeoCons. They NEVER learn from their failures. They are true ideologues so certain of the perfection of their belief system that reality doesn't even enter into the equation. It's the old acorn, "My mind is already made up. Don't confuse me with the facts."
ET, too much reality. Plz, that doesn`t belong in America.
America is the world`s #1 weapons dealer, and we complain about others selling to anybody we don`t like while we have no problem selling to people they don`t like.
But, you are right. If the weapons were made in Iran, it wouldn`t prove a thing, but more than likely, these were US made and/or provided weapons. Which is why the US msm will be absolutely quiet on this issue.
Nothing new here as this is something like the 5th or 6th time that either the politician or the military have falsely tried to pin such crap on Iran.
While I have no doubt that Iran is involved, to a greater or lesser degree, in both the training and supplying of munitions to those fighting against the US I do not for a second believe that they are dumb enough to put their countries physical imprint on anything.
If there is one thing that can be said of our politicians and military during this war it is that they have consistently underestimated the enemy. You would think that after all of the tactical blunders committed during the Vietnam War that both would have learned from their mistakes in the past, but it seems that those lessons learned have simply been ignored!
These are the people who avoided the Nam War, ignored the pain on both sides, and wanted others to continue to fight and die while they partied on daddy`s $ back home.
They didn`t learn then, and they could not be bothered to learn since then. In fact, they fired the people who actually learned the lessons in order to be NOT reminded of the costs of war. Ignorance, or the pursuit of ignorance in the case of most Republicans, is bliss.
Well when you run with the devil you lie cheat and steal.
That is the Bush way.
Lie to get the people worked up so they will support your oil for blood war.
Cheat the people by cutting the taxes on the wealthiest so they can have more while we pay for it.
Steal the lives of those in the war zone. Blood for oil it is the way of the greedy money loving blood letting liars.
Well, I can see how someone looking through a hi-power scope might mistake markings of "Rock Island Arsenal" for "Iran Islamic Arsenal." on the side of an automatic weapon. So, let's give them a pass on this one, OK? {;>D)=
I'd venture to guess that half of the munitions and arms that al Qaeda and the insurgents are using come from weapons depos that belonged to Sadam's regime that wasn't secured by US forces during the invasion and occupation of Iraq. And the other half from the US due to no accountability of weapons given to the Iraqi Armed Forces.
This has been posted by a guy who believes it wasn't Muslims that brought down the Trade Centers, but, "evil Zionists".
Read the article, check the sources, do your research and you find out that despite the source of the posting, the news account is fairly accurate. People post crap from Reverend Moon's Washington newspaper all the time, despite numerous inaccuracies and misstatements. I see FAUX news postings quite often as well, despite their ideological stance and weak news reporting. Any posting is suspect until you check its sources.
Are you denying that hyperebola posts anti-American/Israel conspiratorial stuff nearly all the time that stretches credibility, (911 caused by evil Zionists) making it so I feel like I'll be wasting my time reading THIS latest article as well? Hey, just stating how I feel is all, folks.
Nope I only report what jews tells us about the corruption and racism of zionism and how it leads to treason in America. Here are examples. Seems your racist fanaticism is getting ever more unpopular amongst real jews.
Jewish Palestinian speaks out against 'apartheid state'
Religion â;; His duty, he says, is the same of all persons' worldwide--to mobilize against war crimes perpetrated by governments in citizens' own names. "Not in my name," Davis cries out--a closed hand gesticulating his affront. "Not in my name as an individual and citizen." He raises his voice as loud as he is able to shout. "Not in my name".

Zionism versus Judaism
Religion â;; Zionists have managed to unforgivably drag judaism's name through the mud for more than 60 years. Zionism might be a racist, supremacist ideology - but Judaism is most definitely not. The more Jews who make this distinction, the better: both for security of their fellow Jews, as well as to end zionist crimes against Palestinians.

Let' see, first we didn't secure Saddam's weapon stockpiles, then we shipped pallets of US currency over there and "lost" a good portion of it, and now one third of the weapons supplied to the Iraqi security forces are unaccounted for, and we are accusing Iran of financing and supplying the Shiite militias? Sounds like we have done a pretty good job of that ourselves.
