News – Austrian police believe a 73-year-old man held his daughter captive in his cellar for the past two decades and fathered at least six children with her, according to police and state-run news reports Sunday.

How could such a thing have gone unnoticed for so long?
How can "the law" deal adequately with such a 73 year-old reprobate like this, with anything resembling justice?
How can the unfortunate woman ever be restored to normality?
And how can 6 children adjust to their "father" also being their "grandfather".
Lots of questions, with, I suspect, precious few answers.
My morbid curiosity asks what in the world did the daughter and her 3 children do in the cellar of that house all these years to keep from going totally bananas? Imagine being confined 24 hours a day every day for over 19 years without seeing daylight or anything else. I would hope that the man provided them with clothing and basic necessities. What did they do besides look at each other and speaking to each other....and speaking of what? What is there to discuss when you know of nothing outside of that cellar? Those kids and their mother would need major adjustments to cope with everything now that they're free. This man is an absolute monster.
The article comments on how Austrians are wondering if there is something in their society that encourages this sort of behavior after the other high-profile captivity situation that recently occurred there. I sat next to a Holocaust survivor on a plane a couple of years ago and he said that the Austrians were the worst Nazis. Maybe Western Europe isn't the home of perfect enlightenment afterall.
It is hard to believe that really nobody in the neighbourhood noticed this extraordinary crime. And how could the wife have faith any more in the abstruse stories her husband was telling
about the children of his "missing daughter"? I wonder, if it will be possible to reintegrate the victims in society. And what about their education? Once again, this case is an appeal to become a little bit less ignorant about the "Lives of the others" than we´re used to!

_What would you personally do if you had armed every person in a nation to the teeth with weapons that you paid for with your oil money?
Only to realize that instead of bolstering the economy, or trying to improve the lives of their people, they horded the money, the only money spent was on weapons, and told their starving people that they were hungry because America was stealing their oil.
