News – It was a tempting sight for struggling landscaper Eli Estrada: a bag filled with $140,000 on a Cerritos street.
No I.D. and bills are unmarked? Oh boy. Very tough one!
Maybe some rich philanthropists out there will see his name and reward him for his honesty. lol, and maybe he was counting on it. He was also prolly hoping that he would have gotten a bigger reward, too. And with the internet, cameras and camera cellphones, etc. and the way things are today, maybe he thought it was only be a matter of time before he got tracked down.
He did the right thing. But still.
Yeah, fear of being caught keeping the money is definitely a driving force in making the decision to turn the money in!
But i still don't know what i would have done! Just being honest... lol
Yeah, could have been a trick like being punk'd.
You know for a fact that *someone* is watching anyways.;)
I thought about that, too. Maybe he could have kept the money for a few months and not spent it just to see what would have happened. Whew, still a tough one.
I meant the big guy in the sky, or your own conscience or the spaghetti monster or whomever.
"Whew, still a tough one." Shoot, you probably make that in a week. That's a lot of money for us poor folk though.
I thought of those things too AG and I'm glad I'm not the only cynic ;)
How much was in the bag *before* he returned it? (shut up evil voice in my head)
He should have gotten a bigger reward though, if it was all there...
I am so sure they have it all accounted for. The article did say that it was going to an ATM so they prolly have a set amount they put in those ATMs (i.e. $140,000) and Eli didn't know their procedure regarding this so he prolly thought, Why take the chance? And didn't the bag have Bank of America printed on it? Plus, he found it right out in front of the bank. There had to have been a camera somewhere. Or a witness.
Still, it had to be SO HARD for him to return the money. I prolly would have returned it but it would have been EXCRUCIATING for me to do so. They would have had to pried it out from my hands, lol.
I wonder if they have tamper-proof seals on those bags? And hey, you could always say "what if I wasn't the first one who found it?" I'm going to heck anyways, I probably would have tried to snag some of it. How much time do you get for spending found money? Or maybe just probation. Or purgatory. Oh wait, I don't believe in that. WooHoo!

Wow, he did the right thing but honestly I don't know if I could have turned in $140,000 in unmarked bills. How freaking tempting would that have been to keep it? And they only gave him $2,000! lol, they should at least have given him $5,000, I think.
Whew! Tough decision.. I'm with you AG, they didn't give him enough of a reward. I have to honestly say, i don't know what i would have done. I know so many people i could have helped out with that kind of "extra" cash.
Yep me. The only thing I ever find is animals that someone drops on me. Or trash they throw out.
Yeah, i have a few cats i feed outside now, i know what you mean.
Hey, I found propeller:)
What'd you use? Geiger counter?
No he has people for that.
It was either God or Satan just haven't figured out which one.
I would have thought drug money. Best thing would have been to watch for a missing and reward announcement. If after 90 days, I would have kept it.
Guy found $19,000 cash, in a taxi belonging to The Who. He returned it, the child porn guitarist gave him two tickets to their NY concert!
I think his mother had it right at 10%.
By being so mean they have done a great job of discouraging others from doing the "right" thing..
10% would be a reasonable amount, I should think. Now, the NEXT time someone finds a bag of money that belongs to these guys, what are they going to do? Probably think about how STINGY they were with the reward and turn in an empty bag claiming "someone else must have found it before I did."
