A for the effort and the idea.

"I want to go to China because I have never been there."

This kid is the man! :)

He's fortunate he was taken in by police in a small town in Poland where presumably he will be treated fine. Too many run-away kids (especially in this country) end up in sordid conditions, taken advantage of and exploited by predators.

This kid managed to cycle all the way to Poland? That's the borderless EU for you!

I recall my hitch-hiking trips in Europe in the mid-1960s and early 1970s, every border was swarming with guards (on both sides). It was great fun collecting the passport stamps, but no fun answering all the questions, "Why are you entering Leichtenstein?", "What have you been doing in Yugoslavia?" "How much money do you have?" etc.

It's another world now, but encouraging that he apparently avoided any trouble along the way. Admire the spirit.

Yeah, I remember those days...especially trying to get into the 'Iron Curtain' countries. Going into East Germany, I was flanked by two guards with sub machine guns while other guards removed the seats from my car, thoroughly searched the car including the engine compartment and rolled a mirror underneath the car, confiscated all my written material (newspapers, magazines), counted the money in my wallet and wanted to know the exact itinerary of my trip thru East Germany. Had to report to the main police station at each city I entered. Memories.

Exactly, mm, memories, and travelling by car, you would've been even more suspicious to the Communists, 1960s? I remember my first journeys behind the Iron Curtain and being surprised that the "curtain" was not just between East and West Europe, but extended BETWEEN each "Iron Curtain" country. I recall hours at the Yugoslav-Romania border ("where is your car?") and even longer stuck at the Romania-Hungary border. After hours waiting to get out of Hungary, I have the enduring memory of entry into Austria -- one border guard standing in the middle of the road, waving us on (the car I was riding in had German license plates)!

To cyclist Colin, all of 16 years of age, our stories would seem unbelievable. (Though I understand that some of the border crossings between the Central Asian countries are pretty nerve-racking).

WOW! I really congratulate this kid! American kids need to learn from this! They need to start exercising and start burning those flabs! We need to start more government aided programs that help our youth, and that encourage exercise. I do not feel that our government is doing enough rightnow.

BUCKHEADD FOR PRESIDENT 2008!
