The Dalai Lama called Sunday for an international investigation into China's crackdown against protesters in Tibet, which he said is facing a "cultural genocide" and where his exiled government said 80 people were killed in the violence.

China is a bigger enemy to the US than Iraq ever was. The Chinese can shut us down if they want to -- including our military. No sanctions against China. I guess corporate greed is more important.

    Good comment but I do not think it will happen as the mass population in general will buy products that cost less. People in general will look after their self interest first instead of looking at the overall long term picture. It can only happen if the government take actions. But we all know the government will not impose any restrictions as the big corporations will be screaming and accusing such action as trade barriers, anti globalisation, inhibit free economy, etc.
    Anyway, that is not the topic on the story posted. The discussion is on the violent nature of the chinese government on dissent voices. This is nothing new in the history of china. Kill those who do not agree with the people in power is the norm. What are the international communities doing about it? Nothing. As too many governments live by this practise.

The murderous Chinese government should be held accountable for the murders it regularly commits against the people of Tibet. The Olympics should be cancelled.

  No, it would be better if they held an olympics, and no one came.
  This is just going to get a bunch of other legitimate separatist movements a start. China can't help but be a victim of "pig baiting".

In another story:
International Olympic Committee President Jacques Rogge poured cold water Saturday on calls for a boycott of the Summer Games in Beijing over China's crackdown in Tibet, saying it would only hurt athletes.
Rogge expressed condolences for the victims and said he hopes calm will be restored immediately. He declined to say whether the committee would change its stance if violence continues or more people are killed.

  You know from the reports I saw, the Tibetans were attacking unarmed Chinese civilians, not police or army. Not that I'm against Tibet's eventual freedom from the Chinese, I have read about Tibet prior to the Chinese invasion. They attacked Christians, Muslims and other non-Buddhist religions. Granted the Chinese made every effort to end all religion, Tibet wasn't any more or less fair.
  As to the Olympics, please make it stop. Lets end this whole sporting venue.

I feel the only man who can cure this disease is the indomitable BUCKHEADD, for he can sometimes be infalliable. With his scarcity of evil, he is chivalrous. He is a benefactor that will cause assents between peoples and diminish discrepancies. He is not diffident and will not plod to help people.

Isn't it funny, for the last 40 years they've had an uprising or two but not attacking civilians until press start showing up because of the Olympics. Am I the only one who isn't surprised? I'm sure even the CIA expected something, I hope, that is their job yet. This is a simple uprising that will be dealt with the cold hard efficiency the Chinese Army is known for, when dealing with unarmed civilians. There will be a gnashing of teeth, a bunch of protests globally, that will do more damage than the actual uprising but China will do what China wants to do.

"WHAT?! They're killing monks and nuns!?! That's the most horrible thing I've ever heard in my life! We have to do something! Now, where is this happening?

Hate to say it Dr. but your spot on. What can king george say? His words mean nothing to the world as he's now the invader and occupier of a soveriegn state and a war criminal.His bunch of cronies and his followers ( some on this forum) are saying they wanted to free the Iraqis but what about the Tibetans who are worst off under the chinese than Iraqis under Saddam and they have been suppressed, tortured and murdered for over a half a century but still the world does nothing. What is the use of having a UN if stronger nations will do what they like to weaker ones?
