"The symbolic article seeks to have police arrest Bush and Cheney if they ever visit Brattleboro or to extradite them for prosecution elsewhere if they're not impeached first."

"Our town attorney has no legal authority to draw up any papers to allow our police officers to do so," said Town Clerk Annette Cappy, "but the gentleman who initiated the petition got the signatures (and) wanted it on the ballot to make a statement."

As you can see, there are still blind, mental midgets who still support the evil in the White house and Blair house

Hmmm...I knew there was a reason I liked Vermont...in addition to their maple syrup, of course...

I'm neither blind nor mental. You have the rights to dislike or even hate the president but get over it. The President had and has the support of Congress to fight the war on terror. Rather than attacking the President, how about asking your do nothing congress to explain their inactions to carry out your mandate, the cut-n-run plan. Seems like they're ignoring the left too.

As to evil, that's simply a childish lefty comment. Saddam and his death camps was evil. Like or hate him, Bush isn't evil.

You should leave this discussion to people who actually have an understanding of what is going on in this world.

If it wasn't for people who think like you, we wouldn't be in this mess!

I for one refuse to 'get over it'. The President had my support (and the support of most of the country and the world on 9-12-01) to respond. However he lost that support when he speciously morphed the legitimate effort to get those responsible for 9-11 into the long sought after invasion of an oil rich Arab nation.

Iraq was not part of the war on terror, well at least it wasn't until GW's invasion and occupation destroyed the civil order. By not providing the necessary security across the newly conquered nation of Iraq, the President was not able to prevent al Queda from entering the country and taking advantage of the chaos. Hundreds of thousands of Iraqi have been killed and mamed.

I can't really blame Congress for not fixing the mess the President created.

The Vice President is already under threat of impeachment. In 2007, Rep. Dennis Kucinich introduced articles of impeachment against Cheney. He is under warrant in Iceland. Somehow I doubt he will visit either location. He should visit Leavenworth and get better acquainted with the facility, as far as I am concerned.

With about a 30% approval rating, W isn't exactly mainstream either.

"Iraq was not part of the war on terror,..."

Iraq was a prime place to strike in the "war on terror". saddam was still giving the world his middle finger after 9/11 and the terrorists in the region cheered him on as he cheered them on. It was a place where the West put it's foot down and said in effect: We are tired of the 7th century barbarism that we had previously overlooked but when you support that now we will make an example of you. saddam had plenty of warning.

It gave a necessary warning to others in the region and abroad that Islamist fundamentalism will be dealt with harshly when it affects free, Western civilization.

Democracy is being established by force in Iraq, just like in other countries in times past.

Democracy may not be perfect, but people risk their lives to reach democratic countries.

Where do you want to live?

>>saddam was still giving the world his middle finger after 9/11 and the terrorists in the region cheered him on as he cheered them on.

Wow. His middle finger posed a real threat to us. And as for his cheering, I guess W didn't like his cartwheels or pompoms.

>>It was a place where the West put it's foot down and said in effect: We are tired of the 7th century barbarism that we had previously overlooked but when you support that now we will make an example of you.

But WE, the US, helped put him in power & supported him - even tho we KNEW he was a brutal dictator. He was 1 of our biggest allies under Reagan & Bush-1. We even gave him weapons. And our own use of indefinite detention & torture kind of renders our opposition to 7th century barbarism moot.

The only thing it did to "Islamist Fundamentalism" was increase recruiting. The more brutal we became & the more innocents died by our hands, the more power we handed to the fundamentalists.

>>Democracy is being established by force in Iraq, just like in other countries in times past.

Established by force? That is ridiculous. You can NOT force peace or Democracy at the point of a gun - especially when you're not practicing it yourself, ESPECIALLY when you're not practicing it on those you are forcing into it.

>>Democracy may not be perfect, but people risk their lives to reach democratic countries.

No. People risk their lives for freedom & sovereignty. They should NOT risk their lives to FORCE an ideology on another peoples. That is NOT Democracy.

In a free country that does not preemptively attack a harmless, defenseless country; has free, verifiable elections WITH paper trails; does not torture; does not illegally spy on its own citizens; does not indefinitely detain its own citizens or others with no verifiable cause; takes care of its own poor, sick & suffering; maintains its own infrastructure; and doesn't try to force the beliefs of a few of its citizens on the entire population or other countries; discusses & debates issues without demonizing or vilifying the opposition or groups of peoples to forward its own agenda.

I guess I would like a Pre-Bush / Pre-Newt Gingrich USA.

(a pre-Rush US would be nice, too)

You need to read the WHOLE congressional report and the WHOLE Pentagon report on the Alqeada link rather than just the Headlines. IF you do you will find That 1. There truly was an AlQeada link. 2. AlQeada was there BEFORE the Iraq Invasion 3.That Sadam supplied training for them 4. That Sadam and AlQeada really were alright with each other as long as their goal was the same. Yes I know the Pentagon report said there "WAS NO SMOKING GUN" in the Introduction but the body of the report does not SUPPORT that headline. And YES I know the Congressional Reports Introduction says "NO ALQEADA link", but then again if you read THE REPORT you find QUITE the contrary!

http://www.powerlineblog.com/archives2/2008/03/...

this link Points out the points of interest in the 59 PAGE Pentagon report and a link is on the page to the actual pentagon report itself for documentation purposes. The Congressional report is older but similar!

Also these reports are the ones the News Media used to propagate the NO LINK LIE. TOO BAD THEY DIDN'T read them for their selves like I did! The Saddam Link is similar actually to the Taliban Link

Heroes? Be careful with your crack pipe so you don't burn yourself. A hero is someone who runs into a burning building to save your lazy butt after you've fallen asleep with your pipe burning. A police officer is a hero when he charges a bad guy with a gun, knife or other weapon. Our troops serving anywhere in the world defending our freedoms while you sit around protesting their mission but not the troops are heroes.

As to protesters, no war was ever won by protesters but they have been lost. Go back to your mom's basement or your dorm room and stop trying to make heroes out of morons.

Yes, heroes! I will not insult crackheads by accusing you of smoking crack, however their is a group of kids that love to pull the wings off insects for fun that I'm sure you would fit in nicely with.....

Voting on something that holds no power or legal authority really is a waste of time and effort. What I'm saying is if you really want your liberal political leaders to actually do something, this isn't the way to do it. That is unless you're a complete idiot on how our system of government works.

As to attacking protesters, I'm retired from the Navy and have been called back twice. I'm very tired of hearing from some of my liberal protesting associates who didn't join the military but think they know everything there is from watching MASH. I don't consider them heroes simply because we don't live in a police state. You protest here, that's fine. Just don't stand on the grass and make sure you have a permit. Try that in your beloved Cuba, North Korea, Iran, Syria or Venezuela. If you're lucky, you might get away with a beating. If you're not, prison, torture or death await you. That's why I don't consider this bunch of morons heroes.

Something that holds no power? So all the non-binding resolutions submitted to Congress have no purpose? I am of course referring the resolutions related to Christmas which Congress debated for weeks. How about dealing with real issues like the trailers sitting in New Orleans Parish, Louisiana, with Katrina victims living in them? When will FEMS admit that it botched the whole rebuilding effort?

Doing a heckuva job, Shrub!

I hope Europe charges Bush & Cheney as War criminals.

You clearly haven't been following the world news. The EU grew a pair over the last few months. France has a new conservative, Bush supporting president. The UK has Brown, who at first didn't know what to support, that was until France joined us, now it's a free for all between Germany, France, the UK and Italy, who will support the US more. Some of this is because we're pulling bases out of Germany and moving into Poland and other former bases of the USSR. It doesn't matter. The EU is changing. Also the EU has put Iran on notice for their nukes and attacks on shipping. I suspect they will support us further.

avatar
Reply

When they got in, they pulled their troops from Iraq. Where are they supporting us. Are you smoking something. Conservative in Europe does not have the neocon meeting we have over here.

avatar
Reply

First, the French and German never had troops in Iraq. As to the UK, they did drop troop levels however, they've increased them in Afghanistan. As did several other nations. Right now the EU folks fear radical Islam more than the dislike America. As to Bush or Cheney, you average person in Europe doesn't care about either. They're more concerned with imports from India and China along with even higher petrol costs.

avatar
Reply

First, Germany is not allowed to send troops overseas except to serve in humanitarian roles. They are fulfilling that NATO obligation vis-a-vis their role in Afghanistan. As for the French, the war we started is not their concern. Most of Europe, including Romania, Bulgaria, Hungary, and the rest of Eastern Europe is not thrilled at all with our efforts in the Middle East. Most of those nations have supported the attempts made by Angelica Merkel to quell the problems raging in Iraq and Iran. Please, read get your news from sources other than Faux news before commenting here.

Clearly, you don't have a clue! Blind faith and belief in a tyrannical government the kind of which we have not seen in this nation since Senator McCarthy is an outrage. We should not support a leader who takes troops into a war we had no business starting. Iraq had nothing to do with Sept. 11, and served only as a ruse against the American people. More to the point, your ramblings are rather silly. I know you have an opinion, but must we all suffer through it?

Sadly, this is what it may take to reclaim our democracy. It is, after all, how it got started.

Why sadly? If every town and State did the same wouldn't that send the message that we've had enough? That would be a good thing, not a sad one.
