This was quicker than even I imagined. I read some personal blogs out of Kosovo, people question the timing as this time of year it is too cold for refugees to survive a journey through the mountains.

The sad thing about Freedom is where capitalism gets out of control and the Rich become oppressors. Which inturn destroys and makes freedom the enemy. We are blessed that this nation and freedom has lasted as long as it has.

I felt the same gamahuche, I'm not great with history but understanding people is more my thing and the results of this could have been expected. Having outside nations approve of it have done nothing but inflame the situation. The only way that there can ever be a peacefull seperation of states is through talking and arriving at an agreement although this likely would never happen in this region. So sad because now we've taken a step back and lives will be lost.

Gamahuche and I along with numerous others predicted this would happen on his story submission, on the eve of Kososvo independence. There is no surprise whatsoever. I don't see how Italy, The US, or anyone in the European Union could be surprised in the least either. I'm sorry to say kososvo may just be a pawn in the cold war (that doesn't exist anymore).

Interesting that 911 still took place even though America sided with the Bosnian Muslims by bombing Christian Serbs in 1999. But, then again, Muslim Somalians killed American troops after America troops brought food to those starving Muslim Somalians in 1992.

Well let's see, why are they upset? Millions of scum bag refugee's move into their country, set up camp and then declare independence. The US and Europe, not that it's any of their business, give the act their blessing. Gee, I can't understand why the Serbians aren't rejoicing. This may be the start of WWIII. Perhaps someday we'll learn to mind our own damn business.

This is an interesting assessment written by Ruth Wedgwood, a professor of international law and diplomacy at Johns Hopkins University. (I posted this on another story but in case you missed it)
Since Europe has proclaimed without grace that the European economic union is limited to Christian countries, Kosovo's best (and perhaps only) chance to join Europe's economy is to ride in as a part of Serbia.
Instead, Kosovo's secessionist leadership may well join the 57-member Organization of the Islamic Conference, as Albania already has done. This may bring financial assistance from the OIC, but the West should worry -- with aid comes political influence.
Kosovo's proclamation of independence would destabilize America's other friends in the Balkans. Bosnia will face a new attempt by the self-styled "Serbian republic" to leave the Dayton structure. Macedonia's restive ethnic Albanian minority may again ask why it is stuck in a state with Orthodox Slavs.

The effect in Central Europe would not be benign. Hungary, Romania, Ukraine & Greece are home to minorities who dream of redrawing maps. Nicosia faces a self-proclaimed "independent" Turkish republic of northern Cyprus. Georgia, which we seek to bolster against Russian ambition, faces the claims of Abkhazia, a breakaway Muslim region in the north.
Human rights activists in Serbia -- who stood up to Milosevic when it was dangerous to do so -- act with consistent principle in reporting the difficulties and dangers that will be imposed on Kosovo's substantial Serb minority.
There should be no false optimism or halcyon view of the province following the events of March 2004. Three ethnic Albanian children were killed in the town of Mitrovica, and afterwards anti-Serb rioting spread across the province - death of 19 civilians, 1000 civilians injured, and widespread burning of Serb houses, churches & monasteries. Independence will not cure this antipathy.

t is hard to see how the NATO humanitarian intervention in 1999, designed to combat ethnic cleansing, is morally consistent with a new indifference to predictable counter-cleansing.

How many noticed that the 'Independent Kosovo' is using the Albanian flag. So the Islamist have a new how in Europe, there own country. How many of those who are 'supporting this 'Independent Kosovo' will still be supporting it when they start running the country by Shiria Law?

As I have said before, many times, these people in this region would not be happy, even if you hanged them with a NEW rope-it will never change in our lifetime
