Most expensive highway in existence. The cost went from $2.6 Billion to $15 Billion. And these scum sucking contractors escape by paying a sliver of the overruns. I blame the politicos too. Unreal.

If Romney had insisted on the proper oversight, both during the completion, as well as when the state took over the maintenance of the project, a lot of the problems wouldn't be there.

But that's the problem... Romney... he did "great" things for Massachusetts... great mistakes!

The settlement was necessary to ensure that no criminal charges would be brought--either against the contractors or against the politicians who colluded with them in this gross misspending of the public money. There are a lot of people around the Massachusetts Statehouse and the nation's Capitol who are happy about this.

Throughout the entirety of the work of the Big Dig, from groundbreaking to completion, every governor of Massachusetts was a republican.

Likewise, out of the 27 years of the Big Dig, 19 of these years were done under republican presidents.

"His Excellency, Mitt Romney" went well out of his way to "fix things up" near the finishing phase.

This was a Teddy Kennedy brain child as I remember, he sure does watch after the publics money.

P.S. fairly certain you would never see me going thru the tunnel, I don't care that it saves something like a whole nine minutes I think I recall reading.

Senators work for their constituents. The money was there, even though Reagan did veto it, but this project saved a lot of Bay Staters' through the job creations, among all the job losses, in Mass. during the late 80s and early 90s.

Probably another reason why he received the "George Bush Award" for public service from the Bush Foundation.

        Wrong.

It was the MA DOT planning committee that brainstormed the hwy and was supported by then Gov. Michael Dukakis.

The project was spearheaded by the Bechtel family's company. You know, the one with VERY close ties to the Bush family and the Saudi government & financial ties to the Bin Laden family. (Bush allies screwing the public sector?!?! SCANDALOUS!)

        Damn liberals!

Its completion has resulted in; depending on traffic situations, a one to two hour reduced driving time from the I-90 Connector Tunnel to Logan.

But since Kennedy lives in Massachusetts, feel free to incorrectly hold him accountable.

Isn't this the sort of thing the term "boondoggle" was invented for? And also, "corruption" - possibly "fraud", maybe "theft of pubic monies?"

I've been slowly coming to the conclusion that Mr. Romney is, basically, an A-hole. This sort of thing really ought to take some of the polish off that particular turd.

Whether you like Mike Huckabee or not, he was on target when he asked union workers in Michigan, "Why would you vote for the guy who laid you off?" As a "consultant," Romney has never created a single job, but he sure cut out a lot of them, and he shipped thousands more jobs overseas.
