U.S. Prison Grows Beyond Capacity in Afghanistan

News – The American detention center, established at the Bagram military base as a temporary screening site after the invasion of Afghanistan in 2001, is now teeming with some 630 prisoners - more than twice the 275 being held at Guantanamo.

Doesn't Halliburton have a contract to build detention facilities?

I think it was Feinstein's husband's company.

Time to build a gallows and make room for the rest of the terrorists.

Why settle for gallows? That wouldn't get the job done quick enough or in large enough quantity. Think industrial grade solution. Yeah, that's the ticket.

Overcrowded??? Firing squad for all those who have no beds...Got any trouble makers??? firing squad...One thing is for sure..we can not turn any of them loose...

Waste of bullets.

But they do get turned loose. Stories appear on a regular basis informing us of people being set free from detention facilities. How accurate do we need to be on proof of guilt before we take other humans and kill them?

GREAT! More target practice for our troops, until bin Laden is found! I mean, let's face it, it's not as if these people value their lives, anyway. I know - - we can tell them they are dying for Allah, then EVERYBODY wins!

I just LOVE win-win situations!

An Arab family moved into our neighborhood recently. The rest of us held a meeting to discuss the danger of them being members of al qaeda. Someone suggested we could talk to the family to get a better idea of their true intentions but was overruled by wiser voices who argued that the risk was too great - they'd lie to us anyway, as all Arabs do - and we should just kill the family. After all, we'd all be sorry if we did nothing and discover one day that the Arab family ate one of our children.

So we killed the family and burned down their house. That'll teach 'em! On Sunday, several of us neighbors went to church thanking God for giving us the moral courage to take a stand against terrorism and violence. And if we guessed wrong, we take comfort that Jesus knows we had good intentions and will smile lovingly as he gives us a pass on our actions.

a parable. This generalization of cultures and good guys/bad guys leads to casual suggestions of hangings, mass executions, and the like. forgive the shock value of my point.

Bit excessive, don't you think?

Not even a little bit.

That fake story from a person espousing to be a Christian???

You obviously are not.

you're correct. what I wrote would not represent Christianity if this were an actual event.

"Bagram prisoners have fewer privileges, less ability to contest their detention and no access to lawyers. Some detainees have been held without charge for more than five years, officials said."

What bothers me is potentially holding people forever without a chance to hear charges or defend themselves. Because we are not at war against a state the detainees could potentially be facing a life sentence. It sounds like something that as a kid growing up I used to hear Russia did. Never did I expect my country, my United States, to indefinitely secret people away without charge.

If they're really guilty or dangerous we ought to be able to specify charges and prove the guilt. Guilty confessions resulting from enhanced interrogation techniques don't count.

I agree. I've also heard anecdotal stories of people turning in business competitors and paramours in order to get rid of the competition or just to collect the reward $.

Time to start dealing with them huh?

psst, yeah in this many years sure the prison will overflow. But I don't think this is the answer for anything. If we want to solve the situation in Afghanistan, instead of putting our hands around the shoulders of Musharraff we must attack the tribal areas of Pakistan. Kill Bin Laden and his kins once and forever. That will solve it. Those stupid Pakistani's truly deserve a kick on their butts.
