Propeller Week In Review: January 4, 2007

News – This last week, our Top Twenty was dominated by multiple stories about the assassination of Benazir Bhutto. But there were also lively conversations about music, the Iowa caucuses, impeachment, and (I'm not kidding) turtles. Come on down!

Great article James, looking forward to the next one...

Glad you liked it, STONERS. I was on vacation last week, but am now raring to go with the next 52 WIRs. A Happy New Year to you, by the way.

I'm bursting with pride to know "I Like Turtles" left you speechless James! It left me rather open-mouthed as well. :)

Yeah, I was pretty stunned. And I speak as a former turtle owner--we had a ancient box turtle named Chester, to whom I had to administer eye drops and injections when he became ill. Only when we relinquished custory to the turtle rescue lady did we discover that he was a she.

it is sad.

why do people like criminal news so much?

avatar
Reply

Wish I knew.I know in the past some news was covered up or ignored. Now I'm 50, but it used to be a murder, child abduction, murder, rape was NEWS.But now it's ratings.

But lets say murders dropped 10%, it's not advertised, but we are drowned in the sensationalistic crimes which makes us terrified and keeps us locked up in our homes afraid of everyone.

REAL,REAL SAD

Excuse you! I would have thought this story with 151 VOTES and 518 COMMENTS would have made the director's cut:

What's a girl gotta do? It didn't have the secret decoder ring, did it? ; )

My New Year's resolution is to no longer read the global warming threads. I'll still vote for them, as the 518 comments and 151 votes (High Five, Alpha!) indicate there are a number of members who enjoy having the same argument over and over again.

Jump again! Perhaps over a higher hurdle.

Your "Joe Biden/Dark Horse" thread also got a mention.

Now that he's become an "also ran" I guess you'll be switching to a stalking horse of a different colour?

I'll also be waiting for your tip for the Grand National!

I didn't get any mention when I spent a couple days on page 1;was my breath that bad???

And not a word about me, Propeller's resident anti-christ. That's okay...I'll remember. No respect.

avatar

You got mentioned in the comments about the blog that didn't mention you...that's gotta count for something!

Maybe James has decided that you deserve a dose of your medicine.

What does it feel like to be disrespected and marginalized?

On the other hand, you might just be less important than you think you are.

Darling! I am hardly ever serious! I perhaps should have added a ;) at the end!

And you are doing an excellent job IMO!

A few people prefer to take my jokes seriosly. I'm not the "anti-Christ" nor do I feel marginalized or left-out by any stretch of the imagination.

To the contrary, I am grateful for your support, JamesMarus, and for most of the entire community at Propeller. We are really fortunate to have someone like yourself, who is truly a uniter.

And I am not a butt-kisser; if I dont agree with you or anyone, you can rest assured I will open my big mouth.

Thanks again for another good weekly review.

Many thanks, SC--I'm blushing. But if things are going swimmingly on Propeller, I have to share the credit with our excellent team of anchors, developers, and Scouts. Not to mention the membership, which is heading toward the 450K mark. (Hmm, this is beginning to sound like my Oscar speech. I'll stop before I get gonged.)

Come to think of it, James, I think we should have three annual Propeller Awards:

Propeller Spin: for the most creative and original post,

Propeller Wake: For the most votes, and

Propeller Push: For the most comments!

You may even consider a "Skipper Award" for the Propellerhead submitting the most stories. Why not?

Each award should be a baseball cap with a Propeller at the top!

And you could make it as an additional icon right next to the avatar!

Peace and Blessings!

Thanks James, I'm thrilled to have Considerable Sounds mentioned. As I mentioned on a thread earlier this week, you can't please everyone. Trying to is like teaching a pig to sing. There will be no aria and it annoys the pig.

I really enjoy these recaps, as always, well done.

Best to all!

You're very welcome. Many of this week's top stories tilted toward the catastrophic, or just plain depressing, starting with Bhutto's assassination. It was great to linger on musical matters for the space of a paragraph. But hey, you forgot Richard Thompson's "Sweet Warrior," and Los Lobos' "The Town and the City," and Levon Helm's "Dirt Farmer," and "Bill Frisell, Ron Carter, Paul Motian," and....

....And long ago from my heavy metal days as Black Sabbath wrote it's Heaven AND HELL.It's just the heaven part rarely gets reported or discussed.

And nice to see Robert Wyatt get another mention here!

I went on to find some interesting youtube material on him including a recent 90 minute speaking gig at the Purcell Hall in London.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=V9XRWkIKTYU

The blurb describes him as a "national treasure".

Robert Wyatt's most awesomest song ever! "Stalin Wasn't Stalling"!

The biggest terrorist acts are usually false flag terrorist operations, blamed on Muslims. The only terrorist atrocity using nerve gas was perpetrated by an odd Buddhist sect: Aum Shinrikyo. Usually, Buddhists are harmless to anyone but themselves.

Another excellent synopsis. Thanks James.

I particularly liked (meaning I agree with), the comment after the article by 'Salsburg'....and like to add. I told you so! LOL!

You're welcome, sumptuousdigs. But wait, which was the article by Salsburg?

avatar

I'm sorry James, my post is misleading. I meant the comment by Guy Salsburg, after the story in the comment section. My bad....

Got into 2 lengthy discussion on RELIGION and POLITICS and didn't get called a name once. I'm stunned. These are touchy areas.

My philosophy in a debate/discussion is there are facts and opinions. If my facts are wrong, teach me.If by hearing opinions alters mine, fine. But respecting others is my top priority. Thanks everyone.
