"In his audiotape, which could not be independently verified, al-Baghdadi also called on militants to kill members of the militias instead of slaughtering animals to mark Eid al-Adha รข;; a four-day religious holiday for Muslims marked by the sacrifice of cows, sheep, goats and bulls. The holiday ended Saturday."

Calling for human sacrifices, that is special

When one vanishes, there are 10 others in line to take his place. Have not we heard of so many "top" or "key" operatives being killed. Funny to believe these stories.

Let me get this right,

If I kill one of my enemy, and I know it, and than the enemy says the guy is dead, I should disbelieve?

The real blow to AlQaeda in Iraq did not come when Zarqawi or this guy or any other local AlQaeda leader or commander was killed, the real blow came when ALQaeda operatives in Iraq made their fatal mistake by killing a tribal chief who was opposed to ALQaeda. Then AlQaeda went ahead and put the last nail in its coffin when they bombed the funeral of that tribal chief and killed lot more. AlQaeda , somehow managed to fatally underestimate the tribal culture and its working. In general if you go and kill the most a s s hole member of any given tribe, even though the rest of the tribe would admit the man was an a s s ho le but in order to preserve the tribal pride and HONOR, they have to go and kill the murderer or a member of the tribe that murderer belonged to. In this case ALQaeda did not just kill a tribe's member they killed the chief and ..What happened afterward basically dealt a kind if blow to AlQaeda that US military with all its might had failed to do.

Those Sunni tribes who were fighting against US and Iraqi government, decided that between two evil US and AlQaeda, for now AlQaeda was the worst and they switched sides. This happened almost during the time when Bush had announced the troop surge. The Sunni insurgents in the Anbar province,(the ex hotbed of ALQaeda)one by one joined Americans and worked against AlQaeda and provided intelligence about them to US. (something that is the most crucial in any guerilla warfare).

This operation of recruiting ex insurgent by US called AWAKENING has worked quite well and while Bush and his supporters would want us to believe that it was the troop surge that worked , the main contribution comes from AlQaeda digging their own grave. From what I was reading about these awakening groups, their member number is about 60,000 now and they have been mostly responsible for the lull in violence in Iraq (plus Sadr Army standing down for six months)These ex Sunni insurgents get paid about $300 a month.

Not only the violence has been dramatically reduced but also US and Iraqi government have been able to start some civil projects, clean up the streets, get the electricity running and much more needed things that needed to be done in these areas. Next time you hear from Bush or MacCane that troop surge worked, remember they are not being honest and they are simply playing fast and careless with facts.
