From the article:

> The Palestinians have asked that Rice put more pressure on Israel, insisting that Israeli security will only come with a larger political settlement.

Pressure on Israel will not bring Israeli security. Pressing Palestinians to sign (and maintain) a peace agreement will.

> "The statements of some Israeli officials that consider Israeli security more important than the establishment of a Palestinian state hinder an agreement," Abbas spokesman Nabil Abu Rudeina told AFP.

He may say whatever he wants. Establishment of a Palestinian state without security guarantees for Israel will only put this newly created Palestinian state in a state of war with Israel... with all the consequences.

> "The establishment of a Palestinian state is what will guarantee the security and stability of the whole region," he added.

He lied. A peace agreement between Israel and the Palestinians (with or without a state) will do it. A Palestinian state ruled by Hamas or other terrorists and being at war with Israel will only guarantee escalation of war.

> Abbas has called for a six-month deadline for a comprehensive deal with Israel, insisting: "We will not accept leaving these questions open for ever."

If Abbas believes that putting deadlines will force Israel to succumb to Arab demands he is wrong. He (or the Palestinian leadership that will replace him) will be those responsible for keeping these deadlines.

Israel tried the peace approach in 1948, 1956, 1967, 1973. They tried in 1993 with Arafat and in 2005 by turning the Gaza over to the Palestinian authority and removing the settlements as they did with Egypt in 1979. The arab nations refused to sign peace agreements after it's wars with Israel, Arafat refused to sign a peace agreement even when he was offered the best deal that will ever be offered and Gaza did and still does send rockets into Israeli cities. If Hamas had the welfare of the people in mind, it would make peace gestures with Israel instead of refusing to recognize her. If Abbas wants peace, he should be willing to negotiate it, not set ultimatums. Israel could establish a second independent Palestinian state tomorrow, and then when the rockets continue to fall on Israeli cities, consider it an act of agression from a sovereign state and take the proper action. It isn't in anybody's interest to do that and Israel would prefer a non beligerant neighbor on her borders.

Mark Twain once said that "the difference between reality and fiction is that fiction needs credibility. Both Fatah and Hamas need credibility in order for a second Palestinian state to become a reality.

They need way more than credibility. Credibility means assurance that they'll comply with their promises. As of now neither Abbas nor Hamas seem to even hint that they'll promise to make peace with Israel.

> Israel could establish a second independent Palestinian state tomorrow, and then when the rockets continue to fall on Israeli cities, consider it an act of agression from a sovereign state and take the proper action.

Israel can not 'establish' such a state but it can DECLARE it. I've maintained for a long time that this was exactly what Israel had to do.

I have no doubt that the coming peace conference in Annapolis would be a failure; that the Arabs will refuse to sign a peace agreement with Israel; that the Arabs will blame Israel for this; that they'll claim that Israeli offers were "not good enough" for them.

The tragedy of the situation is in the fact that Israel and the US continue trying to make offers to the Palestinians knowing in advance that they will be rejected. This was and is wrong, unfair and ineffective. The right, fair and way more effective way would be to start the peace negotiations by offering them PEACE in exchange for peace... and nothing more.

Condi is not stupid. She knows that the goal of the Arabs and their supporters is the extermination of the Jews. But, Bush needs a political win in the mideast as a counterbalance to the liberal media hype on Iraq and Iran. Especially if he's planning to take out the Iranian Hitler.

Of course, what perplexes me is the liberals who accuse the "neocons, zioncons, etc." of controlling everything. If they were truly in control, why would they permit Bush to pressure Israel like this? I'm sure all the conspiracy theory libs have some clever explanation.

Ah My! The zionist criminals commiserating again. If you mass murderers want peace there is a simple solution. Give up the religious fascist racism and join the modern world.

The One State Solution

The only thing that Israelis have to give up is their racism

An Open Letter to Zionists

There is a way for you Israelis and friends of Israel to get 95% of what you want. You can have a unified Greater Israel including all of Jerusalem, the West Bank, and Gaza. You can have a complete and friendly peace with your Arab neighbors. You can enjoy the prosperity, freedom, and security that you have always hoped for. All you have to do is give up and disavow the one thing that you should never want, the one thing that is no longer acceptable in this world, the one thing that causes most of the people on this Earth to despise you - your racism....

There is already a one state solution. It is called Jordan and it was created as a Palestinian homeland in 1922. The Palestinians don't need another state. There are already more than 50 Islamic states in the region. Give the West Bank back to Jordan (who doesn't want it) and Gaza back to Egypt (who doesn't want it) and there will still be one Palestinian state- Jordan. There, simple and complete. BTW Hyp, why don't you start using credible published journals to back up your ridiculous tirades. Again to quote Mark Twain, "the only difference between reality and fiction is that fiction needs credibility. InformationClearinghouse is about as credible as an arab seeking peace. I love their logo "News you won't see on CNN", nor in any other reputable tabloid.

They cry PEACE, PEACE, but there is no peace. Because every one of the Israel approved "peace treaties" is a fraud. If the Jews can have a "right of return" so can the Palestinians. That is called EQUALITY, obviously the Bigots running Israel never heard of it.

Peace can be reached in FIVE minutes in PALESTINE. Cut off the WELFARE CHECKS. If the Israelis see there is no more CHARITY money, or Big Dog to HIDE BEHIND, they will do a 180 degree flip and FIND PEACE ...... just like that.

Good idea!!!!! Cut off the electricity, running water and sewage to both the Gaza and the West Bank. Make the Palestinians responsible for their own welfare. Let them build their own infrastructure and do it without any outside funding. Then, let them buy the fuel to run the electric plants that they built by themselves. Furnish their people with jobs and a viable economy that isn't tied to any other nation. Tomorrow we'll talk about Jack and the magic beans, or perhaps flying carpets.

Actually make the zionists pay damages to the palestinians. Then make the zionists pay back the $3 TRILLION they have cost americans. No reason why americans should be providing over $600,000 per zionist.

> They cry PEACE, PEACE, but there is no peace.

This is correct. For peace. like for tango, TWO are needed. As for now Palestinian Arabs rejected each and every peace offer coming from the UN, from the US or from Israel.

> Because every one of the Israel approved "peace treaties" is a fraud.

There were no "Israel approved "peace treaties"", at least not one Palestinians agreed to.

> If the Jews can have a "right of return" so can the Palestinians.

Of course. Palestinians have "right of return" to any place or state willing to accept them. Israel is not such place.

> That is called EQUALITY, obviously the Bigots running Israel never heard of it.

I'm not sure what you're talking about but just like the Palestinians the Jews also do not have "right of return" to any state they would like to settle in (Saudi Arabia, for example, or Dubai)... THIS is called equality.
