Anxious to avoid upsetting air travelers, NASA is withholding results from an unprecedented national survey of pilots that found safety problems like near collisions and runway interference occur far more frequently than the government previously recognized.

Does anyone else ask why Nasa who cries about a tight budget is conducting air safety tests? That's the job of the NTSB and the FAA.

Maybe, because it was given $8.5 million to conduct the survey. Again, big business wins out over public safety. I never laughed so hard when I heard that the boner pills, viagra, etc, cause permanent hearing loss. This report didn't come out until millions have used such pills. Of course, the government will never tell people how bad most medications are or how bad certain food products are such as high fructose corn syrup which is found in most packaged food products.

The thing that REALLY disturbs me about this deal: A request for this information that was filed under the Freedom Of Information Act was DENIED. Now, how in the HELL can some bureaucratic weenie just decide to NOT comply with a legal request just because some people might get a little upset? Protecting the corporations at the expense of the citizens. Again. I've got to declare: son of a bitch that makes me mad! Instead of putting the information out there and LETTING the public get upset - so that MAYBE something will actually get DONE about the PROBLEM, they cover it up. Again. So the danger continues, the public is unawares, no one has to spend any effort or money to FIX the problems that were found. If that doesn't make YOU swearing mad, I'd guess that nothing ever will.

The Freedom of Information Act, like nearly everything else that might restrict the bureaucracy, is not something that people should take seriously. It was merely a measure passed to make us FEEL better about spending a few trillion dollars annually and getting so little in return.

Freedom of information act should be abolished, it has been the biggest disaster of americans recent history - because the information always gets twisted ((( check out the 'Evil cops of NY story -- a 138 % increase in drug use now thats scary till you see its from 8 to 19 out of 30000) Problem is that people don't know what to do with the info and rely on others to digest and regurgitate it for them -- which results in chosen mis-representation by the presenter based on his personal agenda.

As I said ---- 'Near collission' don't count

Ps: 'near misses' (good ole news term) do count - they're usuallty deadly

And I don't blame them - If cars where maintained and driven as well as airplains - we wouldn't need air bags, bodyshops and highway patroll

Near collitions (got to give them credit for propper terminology - always got a kick out of 'near miss') don't count or we would have abollished cars a long time ago

Do you guys realize that more people died last year in train accidents than air plane accidents in the US (actually in the world too)

The problem is that everything gets twisted, miss represented and no one wan't to admit that perfection is only a word.
