It IS interesting how the death rate has fallen so much. We've been lied to many times before, but, that fall in death is pretty impressive.

A difficult situation for the Administration. AQI must be kept strong enough for Bush to use as justification for the U.S. presence in Iraq, but there should also be some progress toward "winning".
Thus, the small band of AQI thugs is able to keep on ticking after over four years of being targeted by the worlds best army.
Obviously being anti-terrorist, like the "war on drugs" simply does not work at all. If you want peace and harmony, then you have to spread that. We started out with a war in Iraq and Afghanistan in 2002, and all that has happened is that we have spread war, death, despair, destruction--all the things we thought anti-terrorism would never bring, but now it has.
The only way to attain peace is to bring it to an area and live it there. We can spend $700 billion on war but $0 on peace and love--how is that? Do we then form what we have envisioned? Has it truly helped anyone.

I'm not sure exacty WHAT you're trying to prove by saying Al Queda was in Iraq prior to the invasion since that has absolutely nothing to do with this article or the comments in this thread. The comment that the insurgents were hangers-on and in their last throes was made by your hero Dickie Boy Cheney AFTER the invasion and the Mission Accomplished jock strap debacle occured not prior. So I would think you might find it a little funny that yet again we are hearing they are in their "last throes" with as much sincerity as was announced then.

Why did the Saudis refuse to turn over banking records that would have helped determine where binny was getting his money. It wasn't from Saddam's oil for food money either.
These are feeble attempts to justify the unjustifyable invasion and occupation of a country that did not attack us. A country that had no WMD production of any sort, chemical, nuclear, or biological. A countgry that had suffered 10 years of sanctions. A country that had not rebuilt it's military after the devastating loss in Kuwait 11 year before. A country that was no significant threat to the world remaining super power.
BUT a country that happens to be sitting on a sizeable amount of oil. Who woulda thought?

I can't help but think that some in the anti-war crowd are simply making the point themselves.
Suppose the AQ presence in Iraq was minimal or non-existent pre-invasion. The US military stirs the pot and they come flooding over the borders. Our presence there was the (albiet very dangerous) bait, AQ bit, and we've done some significant damage. We knew that if we were there, they would come. That was the strategy from almost the beginning.
So the 3,828 dead American soldiers were "bait"?
