Congratulations, Mr. Gore!
Helping bring awareness about global climate change, and a call to action on dealing with it, is noble work.
Now we are going to have to contend with increased carbon emissions from the screams of blind, inchoate hatred of the "Right" in this country, who would rather see Rush Limbaugh get the Nobel Peace Prize for no good reason.
Watch it happen, right here...

It's going to happen all over the net. People will be denouncing the Nobel Prize, making 'Goracle" Jokes, and god knows what else for weeks if not months. Anything to distract from the reality of the situation and how much good the man has done.

It is sad to see that the Nobel Peace Prize process has degraded to such an extent. This year 1/2 of the prize has been awarded to Mr. Gore and 1/2 to IPCC on what grounds? This is a Very Sad day for the Nobel.org to award such a distinguished honor on a person who has used lies, falsehood, and exaggerations to promote himself and his company that was established to cash in on the "man made" global warming hoax.

And his great job of keeping kids from getting health insurance. Or maybe the private contractors should get it. Your hatred for humanity never ends. What is really sad is that u probobly beleive the things that u say. It is interesting to see the self proclaimed intellectuals here inject a series of Bush is that Bush is this Cape you are stupid, when in fact my statement about the Nobel org mentioned nothing of Bush. My post was in response to the FACT that Al Gore Founded a company in 2004 that sells Carbon Offsets and in fact by the Way he purchases his from. I was simply pointing out that the Marketing Campaign Al Gore has been preaching has been debunked even by his Co-Winner the IPCC. Not to mention 1000s of other notable scientists around the world who are not among those that have formed a group think "consensus" that the 1 degree rise in temperature in the past century is "Man-Made". But the attempted deflection from the fact that AL Gore is a fraud by bringing up the War on Islamic Extremist Terrorism fits the mold. And as usual the SOP of those resistant to new discoveries on the matter of earth science and theories other than "man-made" is simply reinforced.

@capecoralM at least Gore's money isn't tainted with the blood of my fellow americans.
Vice President Dick Cheney's stock options in Halliburton rose from $241,498 in 2004 to over $8 million in 2005, an increase of more than 3,000 percent, as Halliburton continues to rake in billions of dollars from no-bid/no-audit government contracts.

Interesting Point. When the LOGCAP contract was awarded to Kellogg Brown & Root by Bill Clinton and again won by KBR in open bidding who could have know Halliburton would merge with KBR. I wonder, since Cheney has pledged to give every penny of any profits from his pension to Charity i assume the money helped many people.
SO please share these peoples names and research so that we can all see it. Saying we are fuched is not really enough to go on. Who is the we and how are we fuched?

"Cheney has pledged to give every penny of any profits from his pension to Charity i assume the money helped many people."
How can you assume "the money helped many people" before Cheney has donated it. It sits in a blind trust collecting interest. He could donate it today if thats what he really wanted to do but he chooses not to. Why?
Cheney lies like a rug see the video:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=B3hRvj22RWs
I can safely assume Cheney will die long before any donation happens and leave it to his family. This is more his style. Similar in nature to the five deferments that he used to avoid going to Vietnam and serving his country. Yea he's real honorable and would never break his pledge!
The gullibility of some people is unbelievable.

Cape - It is sad to see an ignoramus post his ignorance for the world to scorn at. You really must educate yourself. Global warming is an established fact that is occuring this very moment. The uncertainties are about the relevant causes, the rapidity and degree of severity it will reach, the extent of harm it will wreak on our earth, and the remedies to reverse or to just lessen the impact.
For Gore to make a couple million dollars off his work in no way negates the truth and significance of his achievements. Nor does it come to a fraction of what the anti-global warming industries make out of denying GW.
Consider - oil, auto, timber, mining, tires, chemicals, pharmaceuticals, food processing, energy generation, waste disposal, agriculture, defense industries, etc. All stand to make BILLIONS out of denying GW and continuing practices that continue to pollute and add to the environmental damage.
Consider - If global warming is a hoax and human generated CO2 is not the cause, why
Reply-

should we give a damn about the smog and pollution now being generated by China, India, and most of the rising 3rd world countries? Our country still generates far more pollutants than the 2 countries combined; and you feel that GW is a hoax. Therefore, we should leave them alone and not talk them into cleaning up their industries. Let every country generate as much smog and atmospheric toxins they want. OURS did not cause GW, therefore, THEIRS shouldn't either.

I would respectfully suggest two things. The US is not the world's largest polluter. Later in this discussion I have posted the data supporting this contention to your unfounded statements. I am suggesting that historical data suggests that atmospheric C02 has risen in the past without a Man Made influence. It is estimated that ALL human activity has contributed less the 5% to the increase in atmospheric C02. What seems to be happening is that there is not so much of a concern about the rise in temp. but rather an extremist environmental posture has emerged from this unexplained phenomenon. Many as you do make the claim that C02 is a pollutant. Yet C02 is a natural element. And to your last question the question why C02 has risen is still a mystery yet Al Gore established a company in 2004 that sells carbon offsets claiming that man is the cause and that he can sell them a solution. How that equates to peace I am not sure but obviously some feel strongly that it does.

I'm generally on your side on this, but the CO2 is natural argument is distorted: Asbestos is natural. Arsenic is natural. Uranium is natural. It's natural to die when all you blood spills out on the street, or the forest floor, human or animal.
Natural does not mean a lot when we are talking about "good for you".
On the other hand, I'm not so sure that Gore has worked "For the peace and brotherhood of men", so I'm not sure why he is eligible for other than partisan political reasons.

Our government and our media are controlled by bankers the CFR, the trilateral commission etc, so the bankers own both sides of the argument.
This may be a way for Gore to do something that is somewhat outside the control of the international banking cartel.
He didn't argue the election issue because he was told not to.
Bush was their man. They needed he and Cheney to initiate 911 and the iraq police action.

You're kidding, right? I think most reasonable people would agree that galvanizing the international community to save the planet and encouraging us all to think of fuel alternatives which don't motivate unscrupulous people to launch unnecessary wars sounds pretty peaceful to me. This is also helping to repair some of the damage the Bush administration has done to our standing in the eyes of Americans and the rest of the world.

Which countries do you think are going to invest in alternative fuels - China, Russia, India, anyone in the Middle East?
China is already drilling ~50 miles off the Florida coast with the blessing of Cuba. If world oil supplies tighten further, do you think China will cut their economic growth and think about alternative fuels? What is going to stop them from moving into the Gulf of Mexico?
Russia already has claimed to about 1.2 million sq kilometers of oceanic shelf as a simple extension of its national territory - territory rich in oil and natural gas. Denmark maintains that this land really belongs to Greenland. The US, Canada, and Norway also have legally founded claims.
Do you expect India to cut economic growth and think of fuel alternatives?
As the older fields in the Middle East fall in production, you don't think some countries might get a little aggressive in looking for new and cheaper sources?

In the UN, why wouldn't China condenm the brutal crackdown by the govt in Myanmar(Burma)? China needs oil and gas from them. In fact both China and India need Myanmar's oil, gas and raw materials for their growing economies.
Alternative fuels cannot be developed in time to prevent unscrupulous people from launching wars over oil
If the world becomes hysterical over global warming and countries believe their economies might suffer, you don't think some of them will try to seize oil rich land in their own self-interest?

Once the decision was made to invade every liberal I know hope for a swift victory with minimal loss of life on both sides. The chicken-hawks policies of the occupation (who btw ignored the advice of the experienced military leaders) that followed our victory created the civil war that broke Iraq into three parts. It's good that we have freedoms other countries lack but it's bad to actually exercise those freedoms? On the free speech, I support that to a fault. However, when you go to other countries attacking our leader you weaken us.
On China and India, they use coal to heat, cook and make electricity. China uses a lot of brown coal in homes. It burns cooler and is very dirty.
On the Kyoto Protocol, it was written specifically targeting American business. On reading the article, what have I missed? The US has EPA laws. What I asked was why Gore is in the EU at times or flying aroung the USA. Go to India or China, try preaching your pollution ideas there. Perhaps it's because both nations would ask him to leave.

In 2006 global CO2 emissions from fossil fuel use increased by about 2.6%, which is less than the 3.3% increase in 2005. The 2.6% increase is mainly due to a 4.5% increase in global coal consumption, of which China contributed more than two-third. China's 2006 CO2 emissions surpassed those of the USA by 8%. This includes CO2 emissions from industrial processes (cement production). With this, China tops the list of CO2 emitting countries for the first time.
Source:Netherlands Environmental Assessment Agency
Although CO2 is a natural element many consider it pollution
More than 70 percent of China's waterways and 90 percent of its underground water are contaminated by pollution, according to government reports. 26 percent of this water is "dangerous even to bathe in" according to SEPA. The Chinese regime has promised to cut emissions of major pollutants by 10 percent between 2006 and 2010, but the problem has worsened this year despite such noisy promises.

What type of environmental impact would 50 square mile wind farms have on local ecosystems? For example concrete production is often cited as a massive C02 contributer. The turbine constructions requires 1,000 tonnes of concrete to hold them in the ground. They also need a lot of road infrastructure for maintenance. In general, turbines are sited in some of our most naturally beautiful areas. Is it acceptable to destroy a beautiful landscape for environmentalism?

On the contrary to your false assumption I believe that buying Carbon offsets from Al Gore's company is not the solution Al Gore favors. In fact if you read on you will find I am for individual energy independence rather than again Buying Carbon Offsets from Al Gore's company as he does. Furthermore there are not at this time alternative solutions that can be implemented on a global scale. Let's say we shut down the US economy, kill all jobs that require electricity (all of them) and transportation. Would that stop the increase of CO2 in the atmosphere? Again it is estimated that human activity contributes less than 5% to atmospheric CO2. Is this about global warming or is it about something else? Environmental extremism for example. Convenience is one thing necessity is another. Our society is fully integrated into the current energy profile. Should we pay taxes to the UN for our carbon footprint? Or should we invest our money in individual independence? My vote is for the later.
