Canada fired a warning shot in a new Cold War over the vast resources of the far North by announcing last night that it will build two new military bases in the Arctic wilderness.

Kind of funny how the "vast resources of the arctic" went pretty much completely ignored until Russia laid claim to territory, now, suddenly, the scramble is on, and it's the next breadbasket of the world.
Why, instead of "vast resources," don't they just say "oil?" It's not like anyone is coal mining, or chopping timber, or even fishing. I guess if you count ice as a resource, you're all set.
