Don't be fooled by the rhetoric. Two or three Senators hardly qualifies as an "avalanche," and the story even admits progress is being made.
There is far more disunity among the mostly defeatist Democrat party than among Republicans.
As far as "evil in the White House," the Clintons no longer are there, so the evil has been gone quite a while. Let's hope it never returns.

What an idiotic view. Cheney is not pure evil? Come the f-ck on! Sorry, have to swear when I see something that asinine in print. Because of the fact that Bush acquiesced to Dick's desires you will probably get another Clinton.
I do agree that this is as meaningless a story as any I have seen this year. We are in such a partisan state that I don't see at any point enough Republican votes coming across to set a withdrawal date. Has nothing to do with the logic of the argument. Every vote is tied to campaign funds. These mavericks who have dared to defy are the usual suspects. I don't see any splintering in the rank and file.
The truly funny thing is that the neo-con plan, which is now by default the GOP plan (since the neo-cons control foreign policy) is that we establish a presence in Iraq for the forseeable future. Something the Iraqi and American people would surely reject. Yet that subject is never broached.

It isn't just "two or three senators." The tide is finally turning. Get your head out of your ass. If you still believe in this war, you're living in the same Lala land as your beloved president. The man is an spoiled idiot devoid of any compassion whatsoever. He is selfishly killing American troops for purely political reasons.

It's looking more and more like the Nixon White House every day. Wouldn't it be great if we could just find the White House tapes and put the lid on this utter debacle. Bush is by far the worst President America has ever had.

Hopefully our representatives will put on their thinking caps and make use of this up and coming report!

Love the terrorist all you want.
Hate Bush all you want.
Stick your head in the sand and hide from the threat of radical Islam...it doesn't really matter, they still want you kill you anyway because you aren't a muslim.
And even if you are a Muslim you might be a Sunni...that means the radical Shiites will kill you. But if you are a Shiite you're in luck...only the radical Sunni's want to kill you.

We invaded a country for NO REASON.....as negative as Saddham was to his people, he was a stabilizing force in the Middle East....no thought was made as to what would happen if he were eliminated....all PNAC cared about was to put their 'plan' for the world into place....they put in puppet George (with the help of the Supremes) and were able to use 9/11 to create enough fear in the American people/congress to wage war against Iraq. How sad....the blood, $$$, graft, greed, torture, constitutional violations, Geneva violations, ....all for a plan that doesn't care about US....maybe, just maybe level-headed Repubs will realize that they have been used...and sense the anger of the public come election time!

Mr. Boehner the Leader of the GOP house called his associates, "Wimps". My, what rhetoric for his colleagues. Should they all follow his pragmatism and if not earn his tongue lashing despise?
Mr. Boehner should take all those Brave fellow Americans like Bush and Cheney who served with distinction (Not) and lead this nation to, "Victory". Boehner is the man of the hour and a true and brave soul who leads with conviction and trustworthiness. The man is a hero for Americans to emulate. His use of the word, "Wimp", shows that he is a man of character and strength, a true representative for American values.
Is this the reason our elected representatives have the lowest poll numbers since the polls were initiated?

The Democrats (who are an a slight majority) are in favour of a phased withdrawal, but lack the numbers to either force a way past Repub. filibustering or an executive veto.....as long as this remains the case, the Dems will be unable to act upon their belief that withdrawal is the best option for the USA.

proto: "conclude that Congress is NOT against the war?
Errrr..did you see a 223-201?
Do you call THAT not against?
By the way ONE of the No votes was Cucinich because he doesn't think the withdrawal is quick enough..
so, Congress IS against the war, just not by 60-40 yet.
It's only 54 1/2-45 1/2!!
Oct. 2001 434-1 (Pelosi only, voted NO)
Dec. 2002 423-12
(Cucinich and a few other were
concerned with Iraq rumors)
July 2005 322-111
Oct. 2005 304-131
Feb. 2006 (after here's where it gets interesting) 288-157
Then the elections!
January 2007 214-221
and now 201-223!!
I'm meeeellttiiiinnngg!!
Next vote?? 188-247....
THEN by November (Thanksgiving)
THIS WAR/occupation/mess WILL END.
They'll be home by Memorial Day 2008!!
Bushie has 4 months to redefine victory,
he should have been working on it
for the last 2 1/2 years!
(too much to ask for from a trigger happy president?)

Congress wants to get a jump start before the war in Iraq analysis is read tomorrow. They don't want to look as though they lack intuition or the ability to "read between the line", something most of us already know. Maybe the will of the people will prevail after all. (I'm still hopefull)

I am know fan of Bush, because of his view on legalizing illegal aliens but on the war against terrorist he does have a few things right, just a few.
We will be fighting terrorist for many years to come.
The enemy will use any means to strike at us.
We need to win this conflict.
America use to be known for winning wars, now we are known for starting them or joining in to help and then backing out before the job is done.
It is not the arm forces fault but the politians and media.
Politians put restraints on our military and do not allow them to win. You can not be politicaly correct when fighting a war and realize that innocent people will be killed.
Between the politians and the media we will never win a war and we will continue to be at risk to be hit by another terrorist attack.

Sabretooth1 year, 1 month ago
K-Man, want to win a war again? Try fighting just wars instead of just making up enemies to keep your military economy rolling. Just curious how making 10 times as many terrorists is going to help win the war on terror also?

Historically, the way to defeat guerilla opponents (which is what the Iraqi insurgents functionally are) has not been to land on them with both boots, but to deny them the popular support that they need to hide from the regular armed forces. As long a the USA is in Iraq, more and more terrorists will be recruited, because it appears more and more that the USA isn't anti-terrorist, it's pro-oil. I'm not saying that this is the reality, but it is the perception - and that shapes reality.

K-Man. . Just curious,..and you're probably not the person to
ask..(God forgive me, I don't want to insult a new friend but here goes) would you happen to know if Mexico has any oil left? I mean a lot of oil? You see if Mexico had vast oil reserves, Bush could order an invasion of Mexico with better justification than the war on Iraq. Mexico invaded us First! Do you see the humor in that. (God I just slay me..heeheeheeheehee...

THAT is because winning land wars is old school, unrealistic, cowboy, comic book stuff..
Get over it...
You'll be better off when you realize
how to really win in this changed world!!
We don't "capture capitols and raise flags anymore".
While you"re concerning yourself with
territorial sovereignty and boundaries,
we're losing a battle against those
who see no boundaries and are at
an advantage as long as we see things that way!
This is a cultural war and our old people with their
tough guy ways are strangling us!
I told my friends 10-15 years ago when
they were bragging about beating down
a trouble maker in a bar
that they frequent that I would be
far more impressed if they told me a story of
how they made peace or avoided
a confrontation and they called me a "homo"...
Well, 3 weeks later the same guy came back with 4
friends and put one of my friends into the hospital.
Like Ireland and Israel, the longer things fester
the more extreme it gets!

When the new prime minister of the UK took office who is less pro Bush than Toni Blair I would have thought there would not be anymore jihad attacks in Great Britain. Instead there were three car bombs almost immediately. What kind of a deal is this? You give them what they want-a friendlier PM- and get more bombs? The jihad isn't going away!
Is president Bush right? Some of you wouldn't say yes to save yourself. The trouble is your bias comes with your skin.

They did it because they wanted to get an immediate response from him, as they did in Spain..
This is a psychological war,
and these people are psychos!
This has been festering since 1820, (YES EIGHTEEN)
and believe me, since Britain entered their
continent they have wanted revenge!
Even THAT effort was far from high tech.
We have malls where people are shot, offices where
co-workers are killed and held hostage
and those sad events are more damaging than
an abandoned car fire or 8 sticks of dynamite.
Not to be taken lightly, but not seriously planned
for mass devastation.

The United States Senate unanimously adopted a resolution on Wednesday warning Iran not to meddling in the affairs of neighbouring Iraq. "The Government of the Islamic Republic of Iran must take immediate action to end all training, arming, equipping, funding, advising, and any other forms of support that it or its agents are providing, and have provided, to Iraqi militias and insurgents, who are contributing to the destabilization of Iraq and are responsible for the murder of members of the United States Armed Forces", stated the Senate resolution which was passed with 97 to 0 votes. The resolution was tabled by Independent Democrat Senator Joseph Lieberman.
It called on General David Petraeus, the commander of the Multi-National Force รข;; Iraq (MNF-I), and Ryan C. Crocker, the U.S. ambassador to Iraq, to provide Congress with bimonthly reports on Iran's "strategy and ambitions in Iraq" and aid to "anti-coalition forces".

Ok, so we agree..
Funding the Taliban,
arming them or any
form of support is reprehensible!
If we find ANY evidence that Iran is doing so..
we must attack Iran!!
BUT,
before we do,
I have TWO questions:
1)How did we get away funding the Taliban against the Soviets?
2) Why didn't the Soviets attack us for doing so???
