only now it's money that belongs to friends of dubya, and we know they're more important than anything else in the whole wide world.

Umm, the problem is that it's taxpayer money, that means Your money and my money. You can spend your money how you want but I would prefer that mine NOT be spent this way.
BTW, I'm pretty sure you were kidding around but seriously this is no joking matter. I could use a tax break, how 'bout you. I don't have money to waste.

The comment was a very sarcastic one. I totally agree that this is a very grave matter. I wouldn't have posted it otherwise. In fact, I'm calling my congress people... AGAIN!

I agree with you. I could use a tax break. I had to pay taxes on pension fund left by my dad who died before age 70. What a crock!! This is not a government and for the people. If I had committed fraud on my taxes, I would have been prosecuted, fined and possibly sent to jail.
It's not their money, why should they care? Imagine the good that money could have done here in this country. So the fraudulent get richer, Dubai gets our money, and we're stuck with bill. Sounds like a bad dinner date. Hotels and sites we can't afford to visit and we're paying for it. Who voted for these people and why are they still in office?
If we as citizens are held accountable for their actions, then our government should be held accountable for theirs. It's getting real old and it's same old story: taxpayers' money being used to build big and better places in other countries, places more than half of us can't afford to visit.
Who's in charge and where can I file a complaint!!!!!!

This is the result of the NO BID, NO OVERSIGHT contracts that the Republicans handed to Halliburton and other crony contractors on a platter in the last 6 years.
I know that some Senators have been investigating the contractor abuses - there have been hearings aired on CSPAN in the last year or so but before the November elections. Hopefully they will continue to do so in spite of the screwed up DoJ.

Too many unqualified political hack appointees like Gonzalez who could give a flying carp about the law, ethics, or their moral duty to their country & employer.
I am involved in a law suit, and it amazes me how the laws are written in such a way that white-collar crooks are basically enticed to try to steal. If you don`t catch them and tell them to stop right away, they can claim stopple (you allowed it at first so you tacitly approved it) or some such ludicrous claim. However, if you make a mistake, they can not only get away with it but sue you and win in return. If you don`t have all the information right away, in many cases you are safer waiting, but if you wait too long, stopple. Why shouldn`t they try, and make you do all the effort and spend $ to try to stop them.
We stopped having a judicial system years ago. This isn`t just about Bush handing over the taxpayer purse to crooked cronies, it`s a systemic cancer.

True 1basque1! Look what that prez in the white house did to stem cell research for example! Advancements in medical science will have to sit, and spin whilst people who really need help will have to grin and bear it! I wish he vetoes his ass from this realm. Pardon me for digressing from the main content of this content.
BTW good article my Queen Bee!

This whole story is BS. I don't mean it is wrong, I mean the situation is BS.
But stem cell research, there are other avenues than fetal, and they are being funded and producing results.
Fetal stem cell research is something I don't want what is left of my tax dollars to be spent on.

Perhaps the Department of Justice is too busy defending it's figure head Attorney General from charges that he has systemically politicized the Department at the expense of upholding the law in the interest of the people to uhmmm ... uphold the law in the interest of the people.

The DOJ has become a joke. A mere cheerleading squad, rubber stamping the at best, questionable antics, at worst, treasonous activities of an ever expanding executive branch. The task of recovering from the Bush era, if it can even be done will require some brilliant, UNCONVENTIONAL, ethical leaders. Sadly and completely lacking.

totally agree. it's a disgrace. and it's been the overarching approach from the start of the administration. as bubba2 says, the contracts were doled out to 'friends' to begin with. no competitive bids, no accountability, no oversight, no questions. sadly, it's almost not a surprise that DOJ wouldn't be aggressively investigating or pursuing these claims. how or why would they? the senior justice dept officials are all part of the same admistration club, political lackeys, utterly without independence, and essentially doing what they're told by the folks who gave them their jobs.
would be nice to see the senate actually put some teeth into its investigations. they're good at making noise but, so far, not so good in actually following through or doing something concrete.
good to see the media jumping on this at least. and, like others, i am hoping more will be done and people will be held accountable....

DOJ should conduct a thorough investigation. Unfortunately, that's one additional thing the incredibly Bush-style-competent General Gonzales did not remember.

So, I suppose if we wait until this dastardly administration has run out of time, there is a statute of limitations and there will never be an investigation? I don't really know how long these scoundrels have to wait until they are free and clear and immune from any retribution.
Thank you, Beeboppin, for posting this. It's nice to be reminded from time to time of the value I receive from paying my taxes. My money is always put to such good use. Course, they could have spent it on Katrina victims, but those folks are only fellow citizens like me. They could have spent it on education, but then, who wants an electorate with the capacity to think.
I wonder if Halliburton et al would be willing to send me a monthly stipend since I've been such a loyal supporter with my taxes. Probably not.
Well, I guess that's what happens when Seedy Goonzales is in charge of the Injustice Department.

For this reason and many others. If I was planning on being involved in a number of deplorable schemes, I would make sure someone had my back. The DOJ has Bush's back. It's a frustrating situation for those of us that are paying the price. This administration is setting a precedent for future administrations. The integrity of our government and our constitution is in serious danger.

More of our tax dollars at work paying the DOJ to work for a living and do their jobs, right? That is what the DOJ employees were hired to do, 'work'?
FIRE them ALL!
Reason; Lack of performance!
thanks Bee for this posting!

Great story. Thanks for the submission. It's such a shame when our own government is tacitly participating in the wasting of taxpayer money by crooked corporate officers. This has got to stop and the US people have to demand it with tougher whistleblower laws and fiercer corporate investigations. This money could have been spent on education, health care and assistance to women and children and the elderly. How abandoned must the taxpayers feel before they demand action from an inert and ineffective govt?
Reply-

endtyranny1 year, 2 months ago
Apparently, pretty damn abandoned. Unfortunately, these stories come and go, rarely gaining the attention and scrutiny by the public and government that is warranted. It's gotten to a point where the congress and American people are so afraid and overwhelmed that they almost never really challenge the administration on the substantive issues. At this point, it would take something unthinkable to really mobilize the country.

I would prefer that my money not be spent in this war at all! Especially not wasted by corruption. It is a slap in the face to every war widow and parent who lost a child in this frivolous war. It is a slap in the face to every American and it better not go unpunished.

Funny how Bechtel skates away so cleanly.
These guys are into everything bad, had huge construction contracts over there and just took the money and ran.
Reckon torture boy has got that monkey hearing and seeing no evil for those brothers.
As there is no whistle blower at Bechtel I wonder if some of the torture policy came from them.
And here in NM? They've become joint managers of Los Alamos National Labs.
God Forbid.

acecando, Certainly this should come as no surpeise if your either an american or know a little history.Every War has had its hugh money making deals at some tax payers expence and and lined the pockets of others." wall street ? viet nam? I think people should be held accountable, however at the same time realize this isnt so unusual during war and also ask yourself why this war, so intense media coverage. Yes those corparations are in bed with the government, and yes them been stabing each other in the back,No different than the past, except those who want to take control of our government are eating this up knowing the rage that is going to culminate from the exposer to those who are so impressionable and think this is so unusual.Walk with trepidation, Love your imperfect country.

Ace can do again. By the way if all of you are truky interested in this topic I would suggest reading BLOOD money . By Christian Miller he really spells the truth out but again as I wrote in my first comment We must not allow this exposure of corruption to fuel our anger twords our own government those who want to take control of our system are counting on those who haven,t been around to long and are gullable.

No one outside California gave a rat's-ass when Ken Lay ripped California off for nine-billion, then declared bankruptcy?
Cheney said he didn't have to testify why there were Enron employees crawling all over the whitehouse just before our roving blackouts began. He claimed executive privledge, when asked to explain what deal was made.
