Britain did the right thing! Pakistan like other countries do not know toleration. That's the problem with the Middle East, escept for Israel who would rather live in peace. I f the fanatics put down their guns, there would be peace. I f the Israelis put down their guns, there would be a batch of dead Israelis!!

I agree with both of you, but The Satanic Verses created so much fuel for the fires of hatred, you have to ask the Queen, "What in the name of hell were you thinking?" Do we really need another spectacle of Islamics having conniption fits over a real or perceived insult to Islam? These people are for real in their anger and the West needs to carefully monitor and control their activities within the borders of western countries or better still, deport them.
Events such as knighting Rushdie will only draw more targets on the backs of innocent British citizens who will bear the brunt of a soft target attack by some Jihaddie idiot.

The only reason I disagree is the fact Salman Rushdie has made obscene claims about Islam, and he gets a knighthood from the British Establishment, Louis Farrakhan made one statement about Hitler and he is banned from traveling to most western countries starting with the UK. The balance does not seem fair to me!

Obscene claims? No he did not! He wrote a fictional book. The plot is twisted, long and boring beyond belief but he did not denounce Islam yet alone make obscene claims. (that being said it was a "Crital" hit.)

The Right thing ? Ok what exactly was he Knighted for ? He has contributed absolutely nothing to literature what so ever and is an exceptionally untalented writer. He was knighted because he attacked Islam a decade or more ago and nothing else. Do people deserve knighhood for attacking Islam now ?
Had he attacked Judiasm or even dared to suggest that only 5 million not 6 million jews died he would have been jailed but because he attacked Islam he gets knighted.
Now try telling us that there is no war on Islam while keeping a straight face. You might also want to preach Western Deomcracy to us while your at it.

I agree with the part about him not deserving being a Sir. It was a pretty stupid move, that had to create strife.
But only because people are making strife about it.
Is he a Muslum? (I don't know, either way) Does HE think he is a Muslum? Was he writing it because it was interesting to him, or was he thinking that he would go off an insult Allah?
If he had written a piece of fiction in which it was claimed, in a dream, that only 25 Jews were killed, or none, the end result, even in France, would have been bad book reviews.
If he had written it as history, in france there would have been an issue, but I think that is the only country with an issue.
Does Germany have laws against denial?

Pakistan's behavior towards Rushdie and the UK reminds me of China's behavior towards all states which support or welcome the Dalai Lama... definitely some parallel there.

It wouldn't matter whether Israel was Jewish, Christian, Buddhist, etc. or different Muslim sect, there would be a war to eliminate it!!

A lot of Muslims are quite devote, not the same as "once a Sunday" Christians, there religion can be a is a way of life for some. When it is threatened they seek to defend it. (ok some use it as a front for there own ends). He knew he was playing with fire on penning that book. On the other side of the coin a there are people in jail in Germany and Switzerland for "Holocaust Denial" , All I'm doing here is drawing parallels, If I were Muslim I would be quite perturbed at Britain's acts. Would they give a knighthood to Ernst Zündel????
