Why is it when high-profile people leave the GOP they are a-holes, but when they join the GOP, it is as if they have had a major revelation from on high. The Republican party is not, contrary to their belief system, the party of God. It is GOP, not GOD.
The Democrats make no less fuss when one of their own abandons the party. So explain, why is Bloomberg so bad just because he left the party?

He's not, HE never was a Republican. He was a RINO. Good riddance, I say.

I don't understand how anyone's party affiliation is anyone else's business. This is a personal choice, not a public matter. When we have to register to vote, I wish we did not have to register with a party at all, so we could be left alone making the best judgement, not on the best party(that does not exist), but on the best person who has a history of doing what we value

I'm ashamed that you have such a screen name as atlas-shrugged (for those of you who don't know, "Atlas Shrugged" belongs to a select group of books that set the foundations for 20th century literature). Your lack of a developed argument and use of base language is a direct contrast of your screen name; I recommend you change it!
As for your comment, I have nothing to say. Bloomberg has lead the city with social and political acumen and I can't think of anyone that has done a better job in a quarter century.

I think Atlas Shrugged might have used the title of a book called Atlas Shrugged by Ayn Rand. According to the Wikapedia the books evolves to a philosophy of Objectivism. Hahahahahahaha. :) http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Atlas_Shrugged

Someone explain to me what is so great about the Republican Party. They push religion (oh god), they push their version of family values (bully crap), they protect industry that hurts the people and pollutes the world, they leave the country in huge deficits, they reduce domestic spending in favor of military build up, and they are always serious bullies that makes people like you think it's ok to be a jerk. Lets examine the world after 2000. We had 911, invaded Afghanistan, invaded Iraq, threatened Iran, p____d off the world, caused serious damage to the shool systems throughout the country, almost every major city is under siege with gangs and homeless, the federal deficit is so high I can't count that high, the military was put to work without a get out plan, .... There is so much damage I can't even begin to describe the mess. It's not all Bushy's fault either. The Republican congress left a mess as well. I am afraid we are headed toward a civil war. How can you be proud of this.

why are you betraying the voters with your party affiliation? this is just the senseless partisanship that is the problem in this country.
you betray the voters by calling yourself a uniter then deviding the nation and teh world.
You betray them by running on "bringing accountability back into the whitehouse" then passing the buck on EVERY SINGLE issue that comes up!
you betray them by saying you're "not interesting in nation building" then bankrupting our budget and security rebuiling a nation.
You betray them by running as a fiscal conservative, then creating the biggest budget deficit ever.
you betray them by running on small government then ballooning the federal government and its reach more than any other president EVER!
you betray them by lying to them about your principles and practices! by hiding behind a political party!
sticking to your principles and governing from your platform regardless of party, that is PRECISELY what voters elect you for.

"why is this even news?"
Because if you raving right wingers go ahead as you are trending and nominate a far-right candidate, and if the lunatic left picks someone who panders to their interests; then for the first time in modern history we may rid ourselves of the stupid, dysfunctional two party system and the growing independent vote may put an independent in the White House.
With all the political rancor and hate speech I see on here and throughout the land, I pray that's just what happens.

Bloomberg is a flaming Lib and knows he has no chance to win the Dem nomination for 08. He is most likely setting up a run for Prez as an independent. He is also popular in NY.
Bloomberg has the protential to do to the Dems what Perot did to the Republicans in 92 and 96: split the vote.
Run, Bloomy, run!!!!

Posing as a member of one of the 2 major parties (and the only 2 that are actually recognized in this country) to gain acceptance, getting elected, and then becoming an independent...
...or something else?

Woot I agree. I'm not necessarisly for Bloomberg on his opionions, but I am for a third party. He has my vote. What do they say, "If you don't vote for a party your wasting your vote." I say, "if you don't vote for another party your wasting your vote." Well consider this a vote you stupid hard core voters who can only see two parties.

Independent, Green, Libertarian, etc. are all minor parties. but, Bloomberg changed to NPA! (no party affiliation--not Independent!) Nothing wrong with that, though...I did the same! (I recommend we all do it. that would throw everyone off in DC.)
