    It is incredibly sad that such violence is going on there and all the US teaches is how to spread munitions and not peace and love. If we spent 2 billion on teaching peace and love, this would never be an issue. For a great book on peace and love that can be found at amazon dot com, LuLu dot com or ebay, search at these sites for "Korana of Mother Goddess." We need to pray for them all.

              There is currently at least one: The authority for our troops being in Iraq EXPIRED when Saddam's government was toppled. GWB is currently conducting combat operations without the formal consent of Congress. It could also be argued that since we are not, technically, at war with anyone that suspending Habeas Corpus is unconstitutional. Certain "Presidential Orders" could also be considered contrary to his oath to uphold and defend the Constitution.

                Then you might as well throw out all of Congress who supported reconstruction and occupation efforts AFTER Saddam was toppled and have been providing the money for it since then. Democrat and Republican alike.

                As far as habeas corpus, I assume you mean US born detainees at Gitmo. When the President declared suspending habeaus corpus for these detainees there was NO standard law declaring it illegal. Now there could possibly be and I would assume Bush will follow the law on what the Supreme Court decides.

                So, no law against it before = no grounds for impeachment.

                If he does it after it becomes a law, then you may have basis for your argument, but as of now you don't.

                    Hey, when you can find a link between the president and that hospital visit, then you go ahead and impeach all you want. Until then you are just doing what everyone else is doing, guessing. The Senate Judiciary Committee hasn't found anything as to date.

                        There is oversight of the prisons by the house and senate intelligence committees. Those committees have oversight authority (and responsibility).

                        I suppose you have problems with those, from your comments. You can get as paranoid as you want, to the point where you believe that unless _you_personally_ know the complete history and outcome of every little thing that is ever done, it can't be trusted.

                        But how do you trust the people who are telling you the history and outcome? So now you have to be everywhere, all the time to check everything.

                        But I don't trust you, so I need to be watching you.

                  I'm not sure it would be a BAD idea to throw out all of Congress. Most of it, for sure.

                  I'm pretty sure the 5th amendment covers the part about being held without due process. Also the 6th. And the 14th. So, yeah, there IS a law. The supreme law of the land. Just because GWB may not want to acknowledge that, doesn't mean the rest of us don't. And, here's a quote right from our Constitution (Article 1, Section 8): The privilege of the writ of habeas corpus shall not be suspended, unless when in cases of rebellion or invasion the public safety may require it.

                  There is currently NO rebellion nor Invasion. This is VERY clear.

                      I wouldn't take votes too seriously; they are handed out quite carelessly sometimes, but I can imagine why someone would vote for this one without rejoicing in the death of anyone.

                      Daylight doesn't always express himself very clearly, and he is clearly angry about the actions of the US in Iraq, as are many others.

                      He is referring to the mantra that many conservatives use that the path to peace leads through war; if we want to be safe, we have to kill all our enemies. They also often refer to the 72 virgins that the Koran, according to them, promises to the martyrs. I think Daylight's point is that people are dying in this unnecessary war on both sides, and it is bad whether you get the virgins or the medals afterward.

                      I'm not sure that this is what Daylight meant, but this is one possible interpretation.

                        Thanks for doing the forensics on this Candida. I had a look back at it too and I certainly wasn't voting FOR anything that involved killing anyone or advocating violence, at least as I understood the original post.

                        But yes, sometimes daylights thoughts emerge with great energy and less direction but I did think I'd understood him and not gotten too distracted by the 72 virgins stuff.

                      Stitches, while I don't agree with the brainwash part, our troops are getting killed everyday. Cindy Sheahan certainly cussed Bush, and maybe some Muslims who blow themselves and others up think they are getting 72 virgins and that our policies are oppressive.

                      He was not praising the deaths of our troops, at most he was saying this was an insightful comment. I often give pluses to people who ping on me, if I think they did a good job of explaining their point, even if I disagree with their point.

              This tired old argument is repeated ad nauseam by those who are unwilling to expend the requisite intellectual energy to engage in rational discourse.

              Clinton and Gore did not mastermind the war; they were not the architects of the war, and they were not engaged in intelligence manipulation in an attempt to sell the war to the American public. At worst, they, like the democrats in Congress, were accomplices to the crime.

              Certainly no reasonable person would draw a moral equivalence between masterminding a criminal act and being an accomplice to it.

                I could have read it wrong, it was the last page, so I don't see it now, but I thought she was saying that in an impeachment, all the congressmen would be questioned as to "what they knew and when they knew it", and they would not be able to say that they were or were not given the information they needed to make a correct vote.

                As far as Clinton and Gore "not engaged in intelligence manipulation in an attempt to sell the war to the American public", sure, but do you know what intelligence they did manipulate? Are you sure they did not get us into the Balkans by manipulating intell, of do you just not know what they manipulated?

            That is such specious logic. There was 85% public support for the war. The will of the people mandated we go. Of course that will was created with biased and non-credible evidence. Go back and review the statements of administration officials. Much of it was frought with lies. Sure it was the same evidence that Clinton held, the same evidence he had enough misgivings about not to act, the same evidence that the neo-cons twisted and turned to meet their needs.

              Much of everything is fraught with lies, unfortunately. But the assessment of a number of governments pointed to the WMD threat, Iraq's government being one of them.

              Finding out later that something is wrong is not the same as having lied about it when the intell pointed in that direction.

                You really need to do your research. The Foreign agencies you refer to were sure of the intelligence because WE presented it to them. This is never explained when this talking point is used. But that was back in the day when much of the rest of the world actually believed what we were saying. The UN inspectors were coming up dry yet we ordered them out and began the invasion. Why? What was the mad rush? The Germans flatout warned us that Curveball was a pathological liar and an alcoholic. So why do his references to biolabs show up in Powell's UN speech? After Powell had questioned the sources himself? The CIA gets blamed but much of the so-called damning evidence came out of the DOD office. Look up Douglas Feith sometime.

                  I looked up Feith. He believed that Iraq was doing a good job of hiding WMDs, so he grabbed every corroborating piece of info he could, weak or strong.

                  When you see something with Bush, do you give him the benefit of the doubt, or do you know he messed up, but you just haven't figured out how?

                  Conservatives, same for Clinton and Kerry. Everyone has their own idea of how the world works, and they often force the data, or throw out the "outliers", if the data does not go along with their "truth".

                  Intelligence data is noisy. It's not like the movies where you get a satellite image of two guys exchanging a box of plutonium. It is scattered dots, and you don't know which ones are real, or what they are related to.

                  So in their defense: The administration had just gotten beaten up for not "connecting the dots" on 9/11. There were more dots, in a straighter line, connecting WMDs and Iraq, than there were for planes flying into buildings.

                    I give Bush all of the benefit of the doubt because he has so little to do with the creation of the policy he represents.

                    Pretty weak research on Feith...please look further than the National Review. He was the one working with Chalabi and the INC, who filled his head with visions of ICBM's and sarin gas. There was NO supporting evidence. And do you think Chalabi might have an ulterior motive? He thought he would be the new Prime Minister, nevermind the Shia didn't want him (see results of Iraqi Election in '05).

                    But I think deep in your post you are admitting they screwed up. But why can't they do the same? They have offered repentance for various mistakes yet no one has yet taken any of the reponsibility or identified any specific mistakes.

          I don't need a scientist to tell me the sky is blue or a lawyer to tell me that no law has been broken, I can see it but in a court of law there is no justice so shrub and co. and all the politicians will go free and if they go to court only lawyers will get richer but nothing will change and that is what my common sense tells me. Less than 5% of the worlds pop. lives in the USA; so do 50% of the worlds lawyers and most if not all elected officials are lawyers and that is the main reason we can never get a straight answer

            That's when a mature adult accepts responsibility for themselves, and through education and ambition - backed by a democracy and a free-market system - is able to support themselves through financial compensation which they themselves earn, and in turn contribute to society through paying taxes on said income.

            You should try it sometime. I'm sure you'd be less bitter and alone, and it might improve your self-esteem and give you a more positive outlook on our country.

        Stop stop stop the bs about impeachment. If the democrats had court credible eveidence for impeachment we would have had impeachment. THe court acceptable evidence of illegal goings on is not available to the dems.
