Liliana Troncoso of Ecuador's Geophysics Institute told The Associated Press that Reventador volcano had been showing increasing signs of activity since January, but that this eruption does not pose a threat to any nearby villages.

The volcano erupted in 2002, spreading ash over the capital, Quito, about 65 miles to the east.

Earlier this month, authorities evacuated about 100 families from the slopes of the Tungurahua volcano in central Ecuador after it showered villages with flaming rocks and ash.

Al Gore has stated that the volcano will now be required to purchase carbon offsets to make up for all the greenhouse gases it has spewed into the atmosphere... ;)

Odd with all the hyper awareness to global warming and green house gasses not a single line in this story about what erupting volcanoes put into the air? I wonder why?

Actually this is bad news for Al. Mother Nature and this beautiful Earth have an uncanny way of protecting themselves. Naturally if the Earth warms (for instance "Global Warming") doesn't it make sense that volcanic activity would increase? Wouldn't this increase of ash and dust serve to "cool" the planet? Hmmm, kinda makes me wonder if the little "globe" we live on just might be "alive" itself? LOL

The Bush administration is clearly responsible.

Bush probably didn't even know about this. Clearly Cheny and Rove are responsible. Probably assisted by Gonzales.

I think I understand: God set off a volcano in Ecuador and a tsunami in the Solomons to punish America for Bush's crimes, just as Bush invaded Iraq because some Saudis killed 3000 Americans in New York.

Read a nice article in Discover magazine last month about the iceland volcano eruption in the 18th century that caused worldwide weather problems leading to millions of deaths over the following year.

Fire and brimstone raining from the sky? Hmmmmm......where have I heard this before?

Seriously though, I hope that no one is killed. Keep an eye on Mt. St. Helens, she has been building pressure again too.
