News – Always Coca-Cola? Not if Bolivia's coca growers have their way. The farmers want the word "Coca" dropped by the U.S. soft drink company, arguing that the potent shrub belongs to the cultural heritage of this Andean nation, where the coca leaf infuses everyday life and is sacred to many.
Coca-Cola has been around for over 120 years, is the most widely recognized brand in the world, and is personally my cola of choice. Why are the Bolivians all of a suddenly wanting them to remove the word "Coca" from their brand?
Why would they even think they would be successful in doing so?
Are they going to start taking after us Americans with ridiculous lawsuits?
Well if I remember correctly, the name Coca Cola is-- because it used to have coca (coke) in it? or a derivative of it, therefore the name Coca-cola. Just calling it Cola - doesn't get it.... Thats just a general name of a soda, pop, fizz, etc... its a brand name, therefore cannot be discontinued....
