End the War!" the antiwar movement will launch a national surge of protest within 24 hours of Bush's announcement of plans to send more troops to Iraq. Jan. 10, 2007, 9:24 a.m.I'm going to my regular Wednesday peace demonstration today and will take this information with me. Perhaps we can get something started here. Thank you for posting this, Spadecaller.

Jan. 11, 2007, 4:08 a.m.You go to a peace demonstration every Wednesday? OMG! That is quite amazing and of course PATHETIC!!! You may want Osama and his bed-buddies blowing up YOUR butt, but as far as My dead friends from the Towers and my friends actually IN Iraq are concerned, WE WANT THEM ALL (the insurgents, AlQaida, and any other terrorist types wanting to hurt this country) to be dead and gone. You can coddle the lil bustards if you wish, but a bullet in the head seems fine to me....or perhaps all of you people who want a repeat of Viet Nam in the 21st century or would like to buy them all a Sundae at Dairy Queen before their next suicide bombing? The Jane Fonda Spirit is alive and well with most of you folks....save the evil in the world, frig the country you live in!!! Way to go! How proud you will all be when history shows that attitude to breed but MORE death. How will you feel then, eh? Treasonous behavior....I say move to Canada...or better yet, France!!!!!!!!

Jan. 10, 2007, 9:36 a.m.I doubt if it will faze the Administration... but it is a necessary reminder to them of what they were being told in November. I also hope it gives the new Congress some backbone to do what they have to to abort the escalation.
I think Congress should look at rescinding the AUMF and take back the war powers the Constitution gave them. Its the best way to stop "legitimizing" actions like this.
-

Spadecaller
Jan. 10, 2007, 10:27 a.m.Good point! Rescinding the War Powers Act would solve a lot of problems now and in the future.

Jan. 10, 2007, 10:14 p.m.A CBS News Poll conducted from Jan 1-3, 2007, found that 45% of American's would favor a short term increase in the number of Troops in Iraq.
http://www.pollingreport.com/iraq.htm
Liberals complain louder than conservatives and have more control over the media. As a result they often forget that the entire nation doesn't stand singularly behind their opionions. Democrats in Congress aren't going to do anything but complain and call Bush an idiot.

Jan. 10, 2007, 9:43 a.m.If the congress of the United States keeps thinking that the people love being lead around like sheep to the slaughter, they have a sad awakening coming. After all we did not get our freedoms by doing nothing during the American Revolution. My hope is that this protest will stay civilized. A big dent in the purse of these big time corporations that support our elected just might help to get our will for peace through.

Jan. 14, 2007, 1:57 a.m.Although the article appeared in a Canadian publication, it had been written by an American, and many of the quotes are old. The fact that a some Democrats believed that Saddam Hussein had WMD doesn't prove that they weren't mislead, but that is not even the most important issue.
I too believed that Saddam had WMD. What I did not see at the time was any proof, and starting a war based on belief is irresponsible in my eyes. The UN weapons inspectors were in Iraq almost up to the invasion, and Hans Blix was practically begging the US to tell him where the WMD were, so he could check. He also asked for more time. I could never understand what the big hurry was. Well, actually I did understand. My guess was that President Bush was afraid that the WMD would not be found and his case would collapse. Besides, he was hoping that the war would be over before the hot summer arrived in the desert. There was a lot of talk about the heat in those days.

Jan. 10, 2007, 12:56 p.m.Their is not enough time now to stop Bush. I am sure that 20,000 troops are now scared for their lives. May God bless them and Keep them and everyone else safe.
-

samsara15
Jan. 10, 2007, 6:39 p.m.They're not scared, but they're not happy. They will do their duty, even if they don't like doing it, without complaining, because that's what soidiers do, it's their job. They depend on us to complain for them.

Jan. 11, 2007, 4:17 a.m.Dont EVER assume to know what is in the minds of the troops...just cuz you run scared doesnt mean WE do!
We will clean this mess up if you Fonda types ever let us....too much interference breeds more losses on our side and if you didnt know that then you know little of warfare. This war would be done and over if people had just stayed away and let us do the job.

Jan. 10, 2007, 1:17 p.m.I don't mind Bush committing suicide but not with the lives of all these young brave american soldiers. Ok, you older serviceman, too. Sorry.

Oh, yeah, too busy planning our next invasion and living the good life.

Jan. 10, 2007, 3:50 p.m.Bush has ordered his "surge". 21,500 additional soldiers. Where does this man's hubris end? Will we ever be able to stop him?
-

samsara15
Jan. 10, 2007, 6:37 p.m.Only by electing someone else. Or impeaching him. Or by Congress taking some of his power away.

Jan. 11, 2007, 4:20 a.m.It is not your job to stop him, it is our job to see the truth and support him. History will bear this out, but rest assured, the next terrorist I kill, your name will be on the bullet. Until you have talked to one of these evil men, I suggest you still to the online games section, cuz you dont know jack about this war.

Jan. 10, 2007, 4:46 p.m.Pull out of Iraq will not happen, because the Iraqi government is voting to give 75% of all its oil revenues to U.S. oil companies, and Iraq is the 3rd largest oil producer in the world.

Jan. 11, 2007, 4:24 a.m.That is absolute BULL! They are not GIVING us anything. They are supposed to simply be payments for what we have spent liberating them. Don't think it will happen for very long either....just a payment schedule which we SHOULD get. We get that whether we stay or not...unless we leave too soon and terrorists take the country ....thats what Dems seem to want....

Jan. 10, 2007, 5:38 p.m.MARCH ON WASHINGTON, I will attempt to make this gathering of concerned Americans since our present President is in denial.
Now that i am over 60 years old and seeing various parties representing America for this length of time, I can honestly say Mr. Bush has been the most arrogant American Presient ever, Hands down!
He, apparently, knows better than the majority of Americans and will ask for that troop increase. This is only his opinion to reincarnate his Legacy, that has already been attributed to oblivion by his failed policies.
American's come together and march on Washington, D.C.

Jan. 11, 2007, 4:27 a.m.He DOES know better than the majority of Americans because his information is better....you know nothing of what is truly going on...neither does the press so just watch and learn.....people are either too bored with life or simply dumber than I thought...

Jan. 10, 2007, 5:53 p.m.This post (Message) was brought to you by the Interfaith Communities United fro Justice and Peace, a coalition of organizations mostly in the Los Angeles area. These groups consist of pacifists, religious groups who have broken away from their main governing body, extreme left wing ideologues, who were deep set in their convictions long before the war began. They have been joined by those who hate the current administration. I am not in any way disparaging their motives. I would suggest, however, that all of us do a little research into this umbrella group. Be careful when forming an opinion about our current foreign policy based on their pronouncements if you are not comfortable with the groups ideology. Use your heads and the GOOGLE. Peace!

Jan. 10, 2007, 6:34 p.m.You're probably right. However, I am an extreme Leftist myself, so they're my type of people is all that you are telling me.
However, I have never been much of a demonstrator, and often feel that demonstrations harm the cause more than they help it. For example, the only effect all those anti-abortion protestors have had is to kill a few doctors, frighten off women, and make anti-abortionists look like rabid extremists. But we're talking stragedy, not tactics, here.

NelsonR
Jan. 10, 2007, 6:12 p.m.MajJohn, Then in your opinion, we should refrain from demonstrating since you perceive our motives would be tied with those who promote the demonstration.
Personally, I do not care about the organizers but only the reason for the demonstration. It is our right under our Constition to demonstrate our displeasure with our governing policies.
If you are a Bush fan, don't go, that's your choice. But do not make up accusations to persuade Americans why they should not show displeasure with thier so called, Leaders.
-

samsara15
Jan. 10, 2007, 6:35 p.m.On the other hand, you give me good reason why someone like me should support the demonstrators, even if I do feel that particpating harms the cause.

Jan. 10, 2007, 8:33 p.m.I was coming home on the commuter train this evening, and I saw a couple of flatcars on the adjacent track with jeeps in camouflage colors. It gave me a sad feeling, because I know where those jeeps are going.
I served in the military from 1965 to 1967, received an HONORABLE DISCHARGE, and I volunteer at the VA Hospital on a daily basis. Those vets give me as much - or more - moral support and friendship than I give to them, and my respect and love goes out to each and every one of those men and women.
Having said that, I'm a peace activist, and I don't think of myself as cowardly. The 2nd World War WAS a necessity because Hitler was a madman. This war is not, anymore than Vietnam was... just a lot of sensless carnage for the sake of big business. That's not merely unjust: it's sinful!
I fully support the peace activists AND the kids in Iraq; both are following their convictions, and what does that take if not courage?

Jan. 10, 2007, 8:56 p.m.Anne Roesler, a UFPJ spokesperson and member of Military Families Speak Out, said, "With each of his three deployments, my son said that he witnessed increasing chaos and a country on the brink of civil war. Escalating the war won't solve these issues. The Bush Administration tried increasing troop levels in October 2005 to 'clear, hold, and build' in Iraq. It didn't work then, and it won't work now. With more than 3,000 U.S. troops dead, over 20,000 injured, countless others suffering from serious mental health disorders, and tens of thousands of innocent Iraqis dead, it's time to bring all the troops home -- not to deploy more."
