Under the banner of "America Says NO to More Troops! End the War!" the antiwar movement will launch a national surge of protest within 24 hours of Bush's announcement of plans to send more troops to Iraq. United for Peace and Justice (UFPJ), the nation's largest grassroots antiwar coalition and 'Win Without War' organize local protests.

"Surge of Opposition"! I love it. Will the Republicans call it an "escalation"?

I'm going to my regular Wednesday peace demonstration today and will take this information with me. Perhaps we can get something started here. Thank you for posting this, Spadecaller.

I doubt if it will faze the Administration... but it is a necessary reminder to them of what they were being told in November. I also hope it gives the new Congress some backbone to do what they have to to abort the escalation.

I think Congress should look at rescinding the AUMF and take back the war powers the Constitution gave them. Its the best way to stop "legitimizing" actions like this.

If the congress of the United States keeps thinking that the people love being lead around like sheep to the slaughter, they have a sad awakening coming. After all we did not get our freedoms by doing nothing during the American Revolution. My hope is that this protest will stay civilized. A big dent in the purse of these big time corporations that support our elected just might help to get our will for peace through.

Their is not enough time now to stop Bush. I am sure that 20,000 troops are now scared for their lives. May God bless them and Keep them and everyone else safe.

I don't mind Bush committing suicide but not with the lives of all these young brave american soldiers. Ok, you older serviceman, too. Sorry.

where is his family? Cheyneys? All the rest of the Hawks families?

Oh, yeah, too busy planning our next invasion and living the good life.

Bush has ordered his "surge". 21,500 additional soldiers. Where does this man's hubris end? Will we ever be able to stop him?

"our armies do not come into your cities and lands as conquerors or enemies, but as liberators."

Lieut. General Sir Stanley Maude addressed the citizens of Baghdad, after taking Baghdad for Britain ~March 17, 1917

Mar 25, 2003 - George W. Bush addressed the nation on television in a speech laden with theological language and declared that his "work of peace" in Iraq had begun.

Sep 15, 2003 - Colin Powell claimed that Americans "are not occupiers" of Iraq. "We came as liberators," he said. "We have liberated a number of countries."[New York Times]

Apr 22, 2003 Iraqis exercised their newfound freedom to complain, with tens of thousands publicly protesting their conditions and the possibility of a long-term American occupation.

Pull out of Iraq will not happen, because the Iraqi government is voting to give 75% of all its oil revenues to U.S. oil companies, and Iraq is the 3rd largest oil producer in the world.

MARCH ON WASHINGTON, I will attempt to make this gathering of concerned Americans since our present President is in denial.

Now that i am over 60 years old and seeing various parties representing America for this length of time, I can honestly say Mr. Bush has been the most arrogant American Presient ever, Hands down!

He, apparently, knows better than the majority of Americans and will ask for that troop increase. This is only his opinion to reincarnate his Legacy, that has already been attributed to oblivion by his failed policies.

American's come together and march on Washington, D.C.

This post (Message) was brought to you by the Interfaith Communities United fro Justice and Peace, a coalition of organizations mostly in the Los Angeles area. These groups consist of pacifists, religious groups who have broken away from their main governing body, extreme left wing ideologues, who were deep set in their convictions long before the war began. They have been joined by those who hate the current administration. I am not in any way disparaging their motives. I would suggest, however, that all of us do a little research into this umbrella group. Be careful when forming an opinion about our current foreign policy based on their pronouncements if you are not comfortable with the groups ideology. Use your heads and the GOOGLE. Peace!

MajJohn, Then in your opinion, we should refrain from demonstrating since you perceive our motives would be tied with those who promote the demonstration.

Personally, I do not care about the organizers but only the reason for the demonstration. It is our right under our Constition to demonstrate our displeasure with our governing policies.

If you are a Bush fan, don't go, that's your choice. But do not make up accusations to persuade Americans why they should not show displeasure with thier so called, Leaders.

I was coming home on the commuter train this evening, and I saw a couple of flatcars on the adjacent track with jeeps in camouflage colors. It gave me a sad feeling, because I know where those jeeps are going.

I served in the military from 1965 to 1967, received an HONORABLE DISCHARGE, and I volunteer at the VA Hospital on a daily basis. Those vets give me as much - or more - moral support and friendship than I give to them, and my respect and love goes out to each and every one of those men and women.

Having said that, I'm a peace activist, and I don't think of myself as cowardly. The 2nd World War WAS a necessity because Hitler was a madman. This war is not, anymore than Vietnam was... just a lot of sensless carnage for the sake of big business. That's not merely unjust: it's sinful!

I fully support the peace activists AND the kids in Iraq; both are following their convictions, and what does that take if not courage?

Anne Roesler, a UFPJ spokesperson and member of Military Families Speak Out, said, "With each of his three deployments, my son said that he witnessed increasing chaos and a country on the brink of civil war. Escalating the war won't solve these issues. The Bush Administration tried increasing troop levels in October 2005 to 'clear, hold, and build' in Iraq. It didn't work then, and it won't work now. With more than 3,000 U.S. troops dead, over 20,000 injured, countless others suffering from serious mental health disorders, and tens of thousands of innocent Iraqis dead, it's time to bring all the troops home -- not to deploy more."
